Birmingham Business School (BBS) is the business school of the University of Birmingham in England. Originally established as the School of Commerce in 1902, Birmingham Business School is the oldest business school in the United Kingdom. History and background In 1901, Sir William Ashley took the first Chair of Commerce at the school, where he fostered the development of its commercial programme. From 1902 until 1923 he served as first Professor of Commerce and Dean of the Faculty, which he was instrumental in founding. Ashley said that the aim of the new Faculty was the education not of the "rank and file, but of the officers of the industrial and commercial army: of those who, as principals, directors, managers, secretaries, heads of department, etc., will ultimately guide the business activity of the country". David Currie, Baron Currie Of Marylebone
David Anthony Currie, Baron Currie of Marylebone (born 9 December 1946) is a British economist specialising in regulation, and a cross-bench member of the House of Lords. Currie was the inaugural Chairman of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Education and career Currie was born in Streatham, south London, and attended Battersea Grammar School. He obtained a first class degree in mathematics at Manchester University and a master's degree in National Economic Planning at Birmingham University, after which he obtained a post as an economist with Hoare Govett. James Rodwell
James Rodwell (born 23 August 1984) is an English professional rugby sevens player who was part of the national England national rugby sevens team, squad from 2008 to 2019. He ended his career with records as the Worlds most capped sevens player, having played in the most consecutive tournaments (69) and most tournaments (93) in the World Rugby Sevens Series. Simon Mantell
Simon Douglas Mantell (born 24 April 1984) is an English field hockey forward. He is the younger brother of Richard Mantell. Mantell currently plays for Exeter University Hockey Club. Mantell made his international senior debut for the national squad on 9 November 2005 versus Ireland at Beeston. He was a member of the England squad that finished fifth at the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup. He competed at the 2010 and 2011 Champions Trophy, and was also part of the winning squad at the 2009 EuroHockey Championship.
