The Birley Academy, previously known as Birley Community College, is a secondary school in Birley, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is part of the LEAD Academy trust. The headmistress is Gina Newton. Facilities The school is split into three levels, the topmost one being the modern foreign languages block; the first floor being English, Languages, Science, Art, Food Technology and Graphics; and the ground floor containing Maths, History, Creative iMedia, Drama, Music, Geography, BTEC Tourism, Resistant Materials, PE and Religious Studies. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner of the South Yorkshire Police in South Yorkshire. Alan Billings
Alan Roy Billings (born 7 October 1942) is an Anglican priest and Labour politician who is currently the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner. Early life and education Billings was born into a working-class family in Leicester in 1942. His father, Paul Billings, worked at Imperial Typewriters and his mother, Dorothy (), at Byfords Hosiery. He was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys, Leicester. He went on to study Theology and Philosophy at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1962-5), receiving a BA degree. He holds a Certificate in Education from Bristol University and further degrees from Leicester University and the New York Theological Seminary. Veronica Mary Tutt Hardstaff Billings (born 23 October 1941) is a British politician, who has served as a City councillor in Sheffield and as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). A member of the Labour Party, she is on the left of the party. Education and career Hardstaff went to the University of Manchester where she obtained a degree in German, and then studied at the University of Cologne. Hardstaff worked as a teacher of German and French, first at High Storrs Girls' Grammar School in Sheffield, then at St Peter's Secondary Modern School. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) is a British musical ensemble founded in 1985 by George Hinchliffe and Kitty Lux as a bit of fun. The orchestra features ukuleles of various sizes and registers from soprano to bass. The UOGB is best known for performing musically faithful but often tongue-in-cheek covers of popular songs and musical pieces from a wide variety of music genres taken "from the rich pageant of western music". The songs are often performed with a reinterpretation, sometimes with a complete genre twist, or well known songs from multiple genres are seamlessly woven together. Songs are introduced with light hearted deadpan humour, and juxtaposition is a feature of their act, the members of the orchestra wear semi-formal (black tie) evening dress and sit behind music stands, in a parody of a classical ensemble.
