Birger Kildal
Birger Kildal (15 April 1849 – 13 December 1913) was a Norwegian attorney and businessman. He served as politician with the Liberal Party and was appointed District Governor in Romsdal. Background Kildal was born at Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of businessman and merchant Peter Wessel Wind Kildal and his wife, Christine Marie Gotaas (1817-1900). He took his law degree in 1871 and first worked as a lawyer in Hammerfest. He later went to work in his father's various commercial and industrial enterprises including Lilleborg Fabrikker which his father had founded in 1833. Political career Kildal had several cabinet posts in the cabinets of Prime Ministers Johan Sverdrup and Francis Hagerup. The Norwegian Ministry of Postal Affairs ( no, Postdepartementet) was a Norwegian ministry that existed from 1860 to 1861. It was responsible for postal affairs. It was established on 18 August 1860 as a successor of the General Post Directorate, which had been separated from the Ministry of the Interior as a government agency in 1857. Arne Kildal (10 December 1885 – 7 December 1972) was a Norwegian author, librarian and civil servant. Background Arne Kildal was born in Kristiania (now Oslo, Norway). He finished his secondary education in 1903 and took his cand.philol. degree from the University of Oslo before traveling to the United States to train as a librarian. He graduated with a Bachelor of Library Science from the State University of New York in 1907 and worked in the country for three years, including at the Library of Congress. Career In 1910 he returned to Norway to become chief librarian at Bergen Public Library. From 1920 to 1925 he served as the Norwegian press attaché in Washington, D.C. Romsdal is a traditional district in the Norwegian county Møre og Romsdal, located between Nordmøre and Sunnmøre. The district of Romsdal comprises Aukra, Fræna, Midsund, Molde, Nesset, Rauma, Sandøy, and Vestnes. It is named after the valley of Romsdalen, which covers part of Rauma.
