Birch is a village and civil parish in Essex, England. It is located approximately south-west of Colchester and north-east of the county town of Chelmsford. Witham is a parliamentary constituency in Essex represented by Priti Patel in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 2010 creation. In England, a civil parish is a type of administrative parish used for local government. It is a territorial designation which is the lowest tier of local government below districts and counties, or their combined form, the unitary authority. Colchester occupies the site of Camulodunum, the first major city in Roman Britain and its first capital. Colchester therefore claims to be Britain's first city.
