Biraj Bhakta Shrestha
Biraj Bhakta Shrestha ( ne, विराजभक्त श्रेष्ठ) is a Nepalese politician and the current Minister of Youth and Sports serving since 6 March 2024. He is a member of Rastriya Swatantra Party. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu 8 in the 2022 general elections. He secured victory over the runner-up candidate by a margin of approximately five thousand votes. He previously served as a member of the inaugural Bagmati Provincial Assembly from the Bibeksheel Sajha party list. The Bibeksheel Sajha Party ( Nepali: विवेकशील साझा पार्टी) is a political party in Nepal. It was the sixth largest party of Nepal by popular vote after 2017 Nepalese general election. Presently, its the fifth largest party in Bagmati provincial assembly. Background It was originally founded on 26 July 2017 from the merger of Sajha Party and Bibeksheel Nepal Dal, but the party split on 11 January 2019. The two parties merged for a second time on 9 December 2020. Recently, Bibeksheel Sajha Party has adopted Rabindra Mishra's document 'Changing Course: Nation Above Notion' that proposes abolition of federalism and a plebiscite on secularism. The Provincial Assembly of Bagmati Province also known as the Bagmati Pradesh Sabha, (Nepali: वाग्मती प्रदेश सभा) is a unicameral governing and law making body of Bagmati Province, one of the seven provinces in Nepal The assembly is seated in the provincial capital at Hetauda in Makwanpur District at the Regional Educational Directorate Office. The assembly has 110 members of whom 66 are elected through first-past-the-post voting and 44 of whom are elected through proportional representation. 2022 Nepalese General Election
General elections are expected to be held in Nepal in November 2022 unless the House of Representatives is dissolved earlier. The discussion is underway due to interest of leading Nepali Congress while the opposition, CPN (UML), is already demanding a fresh mandate.
