Bing Crosby Live At The London Palladium
'' Bing Crosby Live at the London Palladium '' is a 1976 vinyl 2-LP live recording of the show put on by Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Kathryn Crosby and Ted Rogers at the London Palladium from June 21 to July 4, 1976. Musical support was provided by the Pete Moore Big Band and the Joe Bushkin Quartet. The Crosby children (Harry, Mary and Nathaniel) also took part. The performances on June 25 and 26 were recorded by Ken Barnes and issued as a double album by K-Tel International under licence from United Artists Records. The album entered the UK charts in November 1977 and peaked at No. 9. Most of the songs from the album were issued on CD for the first time in 1997 by EMI Records on a CD called “Bing Crosby 50th Anniversary Concert at the London Palladium” (catalogue No. 7243 8 57547 2 2). Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby Jr. (May 3, 1903 – October 14, 1977) was an American singer, musician and actor. The first multimedia star, he was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century worldwide. "Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of the Day)" was the theme Bing Crosby selected for his radio show. It was recorded in November 1931 with Bennie Krueger and his Orchestra. The song was featured in a Mack Sennett movie short starring Bing Crosby. Crosby recorded the song on several occasions starting with the November 23, 1931 version with Bennie Kruger and his Orchestra. He next recorded it on July 20, 1940 with The Paradise Island Trio. On July 17, 1945 he recorded it with John Scott Trotter and his Orchestra and his final recording was on April 21, 1954 with Buddy Cole and his Trio for his Musical Autobiography set. The song was originally "When the Gold of the Day Meets the Blue of the Night", but the title was changed before recording. Because Crosby wrote the verse for the song, writers Roy Turk and Fred E. Johnny Mercer
John Herndon Mercer (November 18, 1909 – June 25, 1976) was an American lyricist, songwriter, and singer, as well as a record label executive who co-founded Capitol Records with music industry businessmen Buddy DeSylva and Glenn E. Wallichs. He is best known as a Tin Pan Alley lyricist, but he also composed music, and was a popular singer who recorded his own songs as well as songs written by others from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s. Mercer's songs were among the most successful hits of the time, including " Moon River", " Days of Wine and Roses", " Autumn Leaves", and "Hooray for Hollywood". He wrote the lyrics to more than 1,500 songs, including compositions for movies and Broadway shows. He received nineteen Oscar nominations, and won four Best Original Song Oscars. André George Previn (; born Andreas Ludwig Priwin; April 6, 1929 – February 28, 2019) was a German-American pianist, composer, and conductor. His career had three major genres: Hollywood films, jazz, and classical music. In each he achieved success, and the latter two were part of his life until the end. Lennie Bush
Leonard Walter Bush (6 June 1927 – 15 June 2004) was an English jazz double bassist. Biography Bush was born in London. He contracted polio as a child and had a limp for the rest of his life. He studied and played violin before switching to bass at 16 and was playing professionally by 17 in a variety show called ''The Rolling Stones and Dawn''. He played with Nat Gonella in the middle of the 1940s but turned to bebop later in the decade. From 1950 onwards Lennie Bush performed a lot of freelance work and was with Roy Fox in 1951. He was one of the founding members of London's Club Eleven (this was the first London jazz club to offer performers a paid gig) and played there (1952-1956) in a band with Ronnie Scott, trumpeter Hank Shaw, pianist Tommy Pollard, and drummer Tony Crombie. Jake Hanna
Jake Hanna (April 4, 1931 – February 12, 2010) was an American jazz drummer. He was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, United States. Hanna first performed in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the house drummer at Storyville nightclub in Boston, Massachusetts for a number of years in the 1950s and 1960s. He played with Toshiko Akiyoshi (1957), Maynard Ferguson (1958), Marian McPartland (1959–61), and Woody Herman's Orchestra (1962–64). He appears with the Mort Lindsey Orchestra on Judy Garland's multi Grammy Award-winning live album, ''Judy at Carnegie Hall'' (1961). He did extensive work as a studio musician both in and out of jazz, including a period as the drummer for the big band of the ''Merv Griffin Show'' (1964–75).
