Billy Halliday
William Halliday (14 November 1906 – 1989) was a Scottish professional association football inside left who played for Queen of the South, Newcastle United, Third Lanark, Exeter City and St Cuthbert Wanderers. Career Born in Dumfries, Halliday was an inside left and signed for hometown club Queen of the South in 1923. His brother Dave Halliday had played for Queen's before him in 1920, alongside Ian Dickson. Billy Halliday was a strong and fearless type of player who always gave his all. His first game was a friendly match versus Manchester University at Palmerston Park that Queen's won 4–1, with Halliday scoring on his debut. The 1926–27 season saw Queen's drawn for the first time in a cup competition against Old Firm opposition. They took eventual winners Celtic to a replay before being eliminated from the Scottish Cup. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is located near the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth about by road from the Anglo-Scottish border and just away from Cumbria by air. Dumfries is the county town of the historic county of Dumfriesshire. Before becoming King of Scots, Robert the Bruce killed his rival the Red Comyn at Greyfriars Kirk in the town on 10 February 1306. The Young Pretender had his headquarters here during a 3-day sojourn in Dumfries towards the end of 1745. During the Second World War, the bulk of the Norwegian Army during their years in exile in Britain consisted of a brigade in Dumfries. Dumfries is nicknamed ''Queen of the South''. Kirkcudbright
Kirkcudbright ( ; sco, Kirkcoubrie; gd, Cille Chùithbeirt) is a town, parish and a Royal Burgh from 1455 in Kirkcudbrightshire, of which it is traditionally the county town, within Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The town lies southwest of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie at the mouth of the River Dee, around from the Irish Sea. Tommy McDonald (footballer, Born 1895)
Thomas Henry McDonald (25 September 1895 – 1969) was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside forward. Career McDonald was born in Inverness, Scotland and played for Rangers in his early career; the Glasgow club won the Scottish Football League in both the seasons he was with them, but he only had a minor role in each. He is best known for his time at Newcastle United who he joined in 1921 and was to spend a decade with the club. At 5' 8" he was one of Newcastle's taller forwards of the time. He made his debut on 5 March 1921 against Middlesbrough. Whilst on Tyneside he made 367 appearances for the club and scored 113 goals. He won the FA Cup in 1924 and the old First Division Championship in 1926–27. He joined York City in May 1931.
