Bill Richardson (footballer, Born 1908)
William Richardson (14 February 1908 – August 1985) was an English association football, footballer who played as a centre half. Biography Richardson was born in Great Bridge, West Midlands, Great Bridge, Tipton, and as a youngster played football for Greets Green Boys, Greets Green Prims and Great Bridge Celtic. He turned professional in August 1926, when he joined West Bromwich Albion F.C., West Bromwich Albion and made his league debut in December 1928 in a Football League Second Division, Division Two match away at Middlesbrough F.C., Middlesbrough. In 1930–31 he helped the club to achieve promotion to the Football League First Division, First Division and played in the 1931 FA Cup Final, in which Albion beat Birmingham City F.C., Birmingham 2–1. Great Bridge is a village in the Sandwell, Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. It is situated in Tipton, near the border of West Bromwich, and it is within the metropolitan county of the West Midlands (county), West Midlands. The 1931 FA Cup Final was a football match between West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham, played on 25 April 1931 at the original Wembley Stadium in London. The showpiece event was the final match of the 1930–31 staging of English football's primary cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (better known as the FA Cup). The match was the 56th FA Cup Final, the ninth to be played at Wembley. Free Transfer (football)
In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. How it works The club acquiring the player does not have to pay any compensation for their release due to having nothing left to pay on their contract, hence, the term free transfer. Some individual leagues have restrictions to protect academies. For example, in the UK, players under 24 who are out of contract are only available on a free transfer if released by the club holding the players' licence. In professional football, a transfer is the action taken whenever a player under contract moves between clubs. It refers to the transferring of a player's registration from one association football club to another. In general, the players can only be transferred during a transfer window and according to the rules set by a governing body (fulfilling the requirements of FIFA, continental and national bodies regulating the purchasing and selling clubs). A negotiated transfer fee is agreed financial compensation paid from an interested club, to the club that possesses the player's exclusive contracted playing rights. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions.
