Bill Pye
Thomas Wilbur Washington (‘Bill’) Pye (3 September 1912 – 3 October 1996) was an Australian politician. Early life Bill Pye was born in Harden, New South Wales, on 3 September 1912. He was the 3 x great grandson of Third Fleet convicts John Pye (who arrived on the ''Britannia'') and Mary Phillips (who arrived on the ''Mary Ann'') and who were married in Parramatta in 1791. He served with the Australian Military Forces in World War II. After the War, he settled in Canberra with his family, and joined the Commonwealth Public Service. He retired in 1972. Political career Pye was appointed an Independent member of the Australian Capital Territory Advisory Council in 1960, but was not re-elected in the 1961 election. He was elected in 1964 and 1967. In the 1967–1970 Council, he was the Deputy Chair. He was appointed to the Advisory Council's successor the Legislative Assembly in 1978 following the death of Allan Fraser, and sat until 1979. Harden, New South Wales
Harden–Murrumburrah is a township and community in the Hilltops Region and is located in the South West Slopes of New South Wales in Australia. Harden is adjacent to both the Canberra region of the Australian Capital Territory and the Riverina Region in the southwest area of NSW. The town is a twin town between Harden and Murrumburrah (which is noted as one of the earliest settlements in the southwest of New South Wales). The town is traversed by the Burley Griffin Way, the major link from and between the Riverina and the Hume Highway near Yass, and ultimately Sydney, Canberra and the coast. Cunningham Creek runs along the edge of the town. Allan Fraser (Australian Politician)
Allan Duncan Fraser (18 September 1902 – 12 December 1977) was an Australian politician and journalist. He served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1943 to 1966 and from 1969 to 1972, representing the Division of Eden-Monaro for the Labor Party. Early life Fraser was born in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton and brought up in Tasmania. He left State High School, Hobart at 17 to become a journalist on ''the Hobart Mercury''. He worked for '' the Argus'' in Melbourne from 1922 to 1929 when he moved to Canberra to work for '' The Sun''. He married Eda Kathleen Bourke in 1931. In 1933, he worked for ''The Times'' in London, before returning to Australia to work for ''the Sun'' and the Sydney ''Daily Telegraph'', but was sacked in 1938. Ainslie is a suburb of Canberra, Australia in the North Canberra district. The suburb is bounded by Limestone Avenue and Majura Avenue to the west and north, Phillip Avenue to the north-east, Mount Ainslie to the east and Quick Street to the south. The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory (known in short as the ACT Legislative Assembly) is the unicameral legislature of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It sits in the Legislative Assembly Building on Civic Square, close to the centre of the city of Canberra. Elections to the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly were held on Saturday, 4 March 1989. This was the first direct election by voters in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) for their own legislative body. The Labor Party, led by Rosemary Follett, and the Liberal Party, led by Trevor Kaine, were the main challengers. Candidates were elected to fill seats using modified d'Hondt electoral system for a multi-member single constituency. The result was a hung parliament.
