Bill Morgan (producer)
William John Morgan (1940 – 16 November 2020) was an Australian Canadian journalist, best known as a television producer for CBC News. Career Morgan was born in Geelong, Australia, and immigrated to Canada from Great Britain in 1967. In the late 1960s, he was editor of the ''Brandon Sun'' newspaper. He was producer of local news and current affairs program, ''24Hours'' on CBWT for its first season (1970–1971), and became Executive Producer in the second. Morgan was part of an internal CBC task force that met in July, 1979 to study moving '' The National'' to 10 p.m. Later that year he was also involved in the CRTC application for the proposed CBC-2 service. ''The National'' was moved to 10 p.m. in January 1982, however the application for a second CBC television network was denied in early 1981. Australian Canadians are Canadian citizens or residents with Australian ancestry. There are three groups of Australian Canadians, including Australian immigrants to Canada, descendants of Australian immigrants to Canada, and Australian expatriates residing in Canada. ''The Brandon Sun'' is a Monday through Saturday newspaper printed in Brandon, Manitoba. It is the primary newspaper of record for western Manitoba and includes substantial political, crime, business and sports news. ''The Brandon Sun'' also publishes a weekly Westman This Week edition featuring local columns and events listings that is distributed free to the entire city. It was founded by Will White, with the first edition being printed on January 19, 1882. After some time under a board of directors, J.B. Whitehead purchased the majority of shares in 1903, and took full control in 1911. He ran the paper until 1937 when his son Ernest C. Whitehead took it over. The Whitehead family controlled ''The Brandon Sun'' until 1987, when it was sold to Thomson Newspapers, who owned it until 2001. CBWT-DT (channel 6) is a CBC Television station in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It has common ownership with Ici Radio-Canada Télé station CBWFT-DT (channel 3). Both stations share studios on Portage Avenue and Young Street in Downtown Winnipeg, while CBWT-DT's transmitter is located near Red Coat Trail/ Highway 2 in Macdonald. History Planning for CBWT started in November 1952, when the Government of Canada announced its intention of setting up a television station in Winnipeg. The station was announced by J. R. Finlay at a Cosmopolitan Club meeting at the Marlborough Hotel on September 16, 1953. CBC Television 2 and Télé-2 were proposed second television services to be operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)/Société Radio-Canada (SRC). These were to have been the Canadian equivalents to BBC Two in the United Kingdom, itself the second television channel of the BBC. ''The Journal'' was a current affairs newsmagazine television program broadcast on CBC Television from 1982 to 1992. It aired weeknights at 10:22 pm, following '' The National'' at 10 pm, and expanding on stories presented on there with in-depth interviews, documentaries, and televised "town hall" meetings. The division of the 10:00 hour into two entirely separate programs, and the length of each, reflect the separation and political tension between the CBC's then-separate news and public affairs production units. The program premiered on January 11, 1982. In its first season, it was hosted by Barbara Frum and Mary Lou Finlay, and was the first network news program in the world hosted by two women without a male co-anchor.
