Bill Denehy
William John Denehy (29 May 1889 – 24 November 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne University Football Club, University in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Denehy entered Melbourne University in 1907, where he was a resident student at Trinity College (University of Melbourne), Trinity College studying Medicine. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The club fields two teams, known as the "Blacks" and "Blues", who both compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in the William Buck Premier Division. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football.
