Bill D. Burlison
Billy Dean Burlison (March 15, 1931 – March 17, 2019) was an American politician who held office in the states of Missouri and Maryland. Biography Burlison, the son of John Ivy "J.I." and Lillie (née Marler) Burlison, was born and died in Wardell, Missouri. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and earned his law degree from the University of Missouri. Burlison was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Missouri courts. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Burlison was a Democrat. He represented Missouri as a member of the U. S. Congress starting with the Ninety-first United States Congress in 1969 until he was defeated in a bid for a seventh-term by Bill Emerson in 1980. He moved to Maryland shortly after his congressional defeat. Burlison was an unsuccessful candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in 1986 and 1990. Doug Libla
Doug Libla (born 1952) is a former Republican member of the Missouri Senate, representing the southeasternmost part of the state. He was first elected to that position in 2012, receiving 56% of the vote over Democratic candidate Terry Swinger. He was reelected in 2016 over former U.S Congressman Bill Burlison. Libla was mentioned as a possible contender in the 2013 special congressional election, but ultimately decided not to run. Personal life Libla was born in 1952 to Clyde and Margie Libla. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. The Senate chooses a President Pro Tempore to serve in the absence of the lieutenant governor or when he shall have to exercise the office of governor of Missouri if there is a vacancy in that office due to death, resignation, impeachment, or incapacitation. Steve Hodges (born February 2, 1949) is an American politician, teacher, and former small business owner from the state of Missouri. Hodges has served as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives since being elected in November 2006. A Democrat, he represented the 149th District, which includes all of New Madrid County as well as portions of Mississippi County and Pemiscot County from 2007 to 2015. Billy Pat Wright (born March 17, 1937) is an American, former real estate agent, former rancher, and a former Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives. He represented the 159th district, which includes parts of Stoddard County, Cape Girardeau County, and Wayne County, from 2005 to 2013. He announced his intention to run for state senate in the 25th district in 2012 in February 2011 only to drop out of the race in May 2012. Advance is a city located at the intersection of State Highway 25 and State Highway 91/Route C in northern Stoddard County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,347 at the 2010 census. Advance was founded ''circa'' 1882. The town is pronounced ''ADD-vance''. History Advance had its start in 1910 when the railroad was extended to that point. Economy There is no sustained industry in the town or near surrounding area. Agriculture, although small, is the most viable local source of income. Public services available in the city include three health/medical clinics: Advance Medical Clinic, Cross Trails Medical Center and Haven Health Care Medical.
