Bijon Bhattacharya
Bijon Bhattacharya ( bn, বিজন ভট্টাচার্য; 17 July 1906 – 19 January 1978) was an Indian theatre and film actor from West Bengal. He was an eminent playwright and dramatist. Bhattacharya was born in 1906 at Faridpur (now in Bangladesh) to a Hindu, Bengali Brahmin family, and was an early witness to the destitution and penury of the peasantry of that land. He became a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). Personal life Bijon Bhattacharya married the Jnanpith Award-winning Bengali writer, Mahasweta Devi. Their only son Nabarun Bhattacharya, a Bengali writer, was born in 1948. Bijon Dasgupta ( Bengali: বিজন দাশগুপ্ত) born April 30, 1951 is an Art Director of Indian Film Industry. Life and career Dasgupta made his debut as an art director with Shekhar Kapur's Masoom and the first film itself gave him the recognition and respect that he now enjoys within the industry. Dasgupta strives to make his setup different and look as real as possible. So that the audience could relate to those places. He bagged big movies like Hum Apke Hain Kaun, Gup, Dil, Umrao Jaan, Mr India and many others. Bijon Sarkar ( bn, বিজন সরকার) (11 April 1935 – 29 November 2012) was a Bangladeshi photographer. Life and work He was born on 11 April 1935, in Gaibandha, Bangladesh, the son of Gouranath Sarkar. Bijon Sarkar left home for Dhaka after his parents died and his ancestral land was lost in river erosion. Bijon had his first lessons in photography from his elder brother Tarapodo Sarkar, who was a self-taught sculptor but pursued photography at leisure. His first professional training in photography was while he participated in the workshop conducted by photographer Manzoor Alam Beg in 1961. Sarkar's career in photography took off after his appointment at the Pakistan's Geological Survey in 1962. Seven years later, he joined Pakistan Television as a cameraman. The television authority sacked him after the War of Independence began in 1971, forcing Sarkar to take refuge in India. Bijon Setu
Bijon Setu is a bridge situated above Ballygunge Junction railway station connects EM Bypass through Kasba with Gariahat. History The bridge is named after a Bengali engineer Bijon Basu. 35 year old Basu was an executive engineer of Calcutta Improvement Trust. On 2 August 1974, while he was returning home from Santoshpur to Sealdah, a gang of robbers got on the train and looted passengers. Basu protested but the robbers stabbed him and threw him out from the running train beside Ballygunge railway station. The bridge was established in 1978. 1982 Massacre 16 monks and one nun of a Hindu organization Ananda Marga religious sect were lynched and burnt alive near Bijon Setu in the morning of 30 April 1982.
