"Big Up" is the fourth and final single from Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy's debut studio album, ''Pure Pleasure ''Pure Pleasure'' is the debut album released by Jamaican singer Shaggy. The album was released on July 30, 1993. The album spawned four singles: "Oh Carolina", which was a dancehall remake of a ska hit by the Folkes Brothers, reached number on ...''. Background The single was released on December 2, 1993. The song was originally recorded under Greensleeves Records, however, was released as a single by Jet Star Records for reasons unknown. A music video for the song premiered in November 1993, and in November 2009, the video was uploaded to Shaggy's official VEVO account. The promoted single version of the song was remixed by Pressure Point, who also features on the track. Orville Richard Burrell CD (born October 22, 1968), better known by his stage name Shaggy, is a Jamaican-American reggae rapper, singer, and songwriter who scored hits with the songs "It Wasn't Me", " Boombastic", "In The Summertime", "Oh Carolina", and "Angel". He has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best Reggae Album with ''Boombastic'' in 1996 and ''44/876'' with Sting in 2019, and has won the Brit Award for International Male Solo Artist in 2002. In 2007, he was awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction with the rank of Commander. In 2022, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Brown University. Early life Burrell was born on October 22, 1968, in Kingston. In 1987, he took singing lessons and was discovered a year later while singing in the streets with friends. Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s. Shaun Pizzonia
Shaun Pizzonia (born March 9, 1968), or Sting International is an American musician, DJ, sound engineer, song writer, and two-time Grammy Award winning producer best known for his work with Jamaican musician Shaggy and English musician Sting. Pizzonia was well known for his knowledge across numerous genres, and is one of the most in-demand radio and club DJ's. He has been influential in broadening dancehall reggae's audience. The name "Sting International", is based on an acronym of four DJ names: Shaun, Tony, Ian and Gary. "I threw an N in there and got STING, and I added International to it because it sounded f**king grand and everybody loved it." In 1996, Pizzonia founded Big Yard Records with Robert Livingston and Shaggy. After departing Big Yard in 2011, Pizzonia formed the record label Ranch Entertainment Inc (REI) with Shaggy, Paul Rossi, and Yoichi Imai, and Shaun is the label's chief producer. "Soon Be Done" is a song by Jamaican reggae artist Shaggy, released in June 1993 by Virgin and Greensleeves Records as the third single from the artist's first studio album, ''Pure Pleasure'' (1993). The song peaked at #39 on the UK Singles Chart, six places higher than " Nice and Lovely". It was only released in the United Kingdom and Europe. Critical reception Alan Jones from ''Music Week'' gave the song four out of five, adding, "More traditional fare from Shaggy, whose gruff patois is anchored to an understated rhythm track. Less of a killer than "Oh Carolina", but another substantial, good humoured hit."
