Big Twelve Conference (Illinois)
The Big Twelve Conference is a high school athletic conference in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), based in Central Illinois. While the name implies that the conference has twelve schools, there are actually only eleven schools currently active, due to other schools either closing, ending offering varsity athletics, or changing conferences. The conference was indirectly responsible for the demise of the Capitol Conference in 1983 after voting to remove Springfield High School and add four schools from that conference. All of the schools in the conference are located in cities on Interstate 74 which runs through central Illinois. Mattoon High School
Mattoon High School is located in Coles County, Mattoon, Illinois, United States. The school mascot is the Green Wave, which represents the waves of corn in the fields surrounding the community of Mattoon. History On September 20, 2017, at 11:33 am, a 14-year-old male student opened fire in the school cafeteria and was quickly subdued by Angela McQueen, a math and physical education teacher. Richwoods High School is the most northern of the three regular public high schools in Peoria, Illinois, United States. Opened as a township high school in 1957, it was brought into Peoria Public Schools District 150 in the 1960s. Urbana High School is the only public high school in Urbana, Illinois and was established in 1872. History Urbana High School's current building was built in 1914. It was designed by architect Joseph Royer who also designed many other buildings in the area including the Urbana Free Library and the Champaign County Court House. The architecture of Urbana High School is of the Tudor style, defined primarily by the towers over the main entrance and the flattened point arches over the doors.
