''Big Tremaine'' is a 1916 American silent romantic drama film directed by Henry Otto and starring Harold Lockwood, May Allison, Lester Cuneo, Albert Ellis, Lillian Hayward, and William Ehfe. It is based on the 1914 novel of the same name by Marie Van Vorst. The film was released by Metro Pictures on November 20, 1916. Henry Otto
Henry Otto (August 8, 1877 – August 3, 1952) was an American silent film actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. Otto contributed to over 150 films throughout his career working as an actor and a director throughout. He directed many films in 1914, in films such as ''When a Woman Waits'', '' In Tune'', '' The Archeologist'', and '' The Redemption of a Pal'' working with actors such as Edward Coxen, Charlotte Burton and George Field. He retired from film in 1942. Otto was found dead on August 4, 1952, in Los Angeles. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the 1937 Fox vault fire and the 1965 MGM vault fire. Black-and-white film prints judged to be otherwise worthless were sometimes incinerated to salvage the meager scrap value of the silver image particles in their emulsions.
