Big Red (Western Kentucky University)
Big Red is the mascot of Western Kentucky University's sports teams, the "Hilltoppers" and "Lady Toppers". It is a red, furry being created by Ralph Carey in 1979. Big Red is meant to symbolize the spirit of WKU students and alumni as well as the sports teams' nickname, the "Hilltoppers," a name chosen because the school's campus sits atop a hill 232 feet above the Barren River flowing through WKU's home city of Bowling Green. Creation Prior to the start of the 1979 college basketball season, WKU student Ralph Carey volunteered to create a mascot for the school's sports teams. It was hoped a mascot would generate enthusiasm and supplement the iconic red towels waved by fans in the stands. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers And Lady Toppers
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers are the athletic teams that represent Western Kentucky University (WKU), located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the NCAA Division I ranks, competing in the Conference USA (C-USA) since the 2014–15 academic year. The Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers previously competed in the Sun Belt Conference from 1982–83 to 2013–14; and in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) from 1948–49 to 1981–82. The men's teams use the name Hilltoppers; however, the women's teams use the name Lady Toppers. The ''College Heights Herald'' is the student newspaper of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States. It is free and distributed throughout the campus and city. The school provides professional staff support and facilities for the newspaper but does not exercise editorial control. ''Striscia la notizia'' () is an Italian satirical television program on the Mediaset-controlled Canale 5. Founded in 1988, it is meant to be a parody of the daily news, which airs right before the program, but ''Striscia'' also satirizes government corruption and exposes scams with the help of local reporters who are also comedians. The program is created by Antonio Ricci and is hosted by two major comedians. The name of the show literally translates in English as "The News Slither". Gabibbo Gabibbo, an Italian cultural icon, is the red mascot of the TV show, with a strong Genoa accent. Gabibbo
Gabibbo is an Italian mascot for the Mediaset-controlled channel Canale 5, created in 1990 by Gabibbo's main role has been in the programs '' Paperissima'' and '' Striscia la notizia'', but he has appeared in several other Canale 5 programs. He is normally a jovial character known for his ability to make wisecracks and his overall humble demeanor. He speaks Italian with a Genoese accent, occasionally using Italianized Genoese words. In fact the word ''Gabibbo'' or ''Gabibbu'' belongs to the Genoese language and it is used to indicate, in an ironic-depreciative way, an immigrant from southern or even central Italy (it may originate from the Arab epithet ''habib''). Antonio Ricci (born June 26, 1950) is an Italian television writer and showrunner. Biography Antonio Ricci was born in Albenga, in the Italian province of Savona, on June 26, 1950. A literature graduate, he created many tv shows for Rai, the Italian national public broadcasting company, and Mediaset, the largest commercial broadcaster in the country. At 29 years old, he was one of the writers of the Saturday prime-time tv show Fantastico (Raiuno, 1979, 1981 and 1982).
