Big Marsh Creek
Big Marsh Creek is a tributary of Crescent Creek in Klamath County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. The creek flows generally north from its source upstream of Big Marsh, south of Crescent Lake on the eastern side of the Cascade Range. All of Big Marsh Creek and of Crescent Creek are parts of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. In turn, Crescent Creek is a tributary of the Little Deschutes River, of which in the same general area are also part of the national system. The upper reaches of Big Marsh Creek flow through the Oregon Cascades National Recreation Area. Klamath County, Oregon
Klamath County ( ) is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 69,413. The county seat is Klamath Falls. The county was named for the Klamath, the tribe of Native Americans living in the area at the time the first European explorers entered the region. Klamath County comprises the Klamath Falls, OR Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The Klamath or ''Clamitte'' tribe of Indians, for which Klamath County was named, are the descendants of varying cultures of indigenous peoples, who have lived in the area for more than 10,000 years. Cascade Range
The Cascade Range or Cascades is a major mountain range of western North America, extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. It includes both non-volcanic mountains, such as the North Cascades, and the notable volcanoes known as the High Cascades. The small part of the range in British Columbia is referred to as the Canadian Cascades or, locally, as the Cascade Mountains. Crescent Lake (Oregon)
Crescent Lake is a natural lake on the eastern side of the Cascade Range in the northwest corner of Klamath County, Oregon, United States. The unincorporated community of Crescent Lake Junction on Oregon Route 58 and Crescent Lake State Airport are located northeast of the lake. The lake was named for its shape by Byron J. Pengra and William Holman Odell in July 1865. Recreation Crescent Lake is located within the Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest. The area has many trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, and areas for off-road vehicles. There are also a few developed campsites and boat ramps that provide opportunities for sailing, water skiing, camping and fishing. Crescent Creek
Crescent Creek is a tributary of the Little Deschutes River in Klamath County in the U.S. state of Oregon. Beginning at Crescent Lake on the eastern flank of the Cascade Range, the river flows generally east through parts of Deschutes National Forest to meet the Little Deschutes between Crescent and La Pine. A stretch of Crescent Creek was named part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System in 1988. Designated "recreational", the segment below Crescent Lake flows through a narrow canyon and a forest of old-growth pine. One of Crescent Creek's tributaries, Big Marsh Creek, is also part of the wild rivers system. The upper of the Little Deschutes is part of the system too. The creek supports native rainbow trout, non-native brown trout and brook trout, and other species. Crescent Lake, Oregon
Crescent Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. It is situated northeast of Crescent Lake and south of Odell Lake on Oregon Route 58, and is next to Crescent Lake State Airport. Crescent Lake was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The north end of the CDP, at the intersection of Route 58 and Crescent Lake Highway ( Oregon Route 429), is known as Crescent Lake Junction. History The community of Crescent Lake was originally located along the Southern Pacific Railroad line, south by southwest of the current Crescent Lake Junction. The National Wild and Scenic Rivers System was created by the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968 (Public Law 90-542), enacted by the U.S. Congress to preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations.
