Big Brother (TV Series)
''Big Brother'' is a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999, and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show features contestants called "housemates" or "HouseGuests" who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The name is inspired by Big Brother (Nineteen Eighty-Four), Big Brother from George Orwell's novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four'', and the housemates are continuously monitored during their stay in the house by live television cameras as well as personal audio microphones. Johannes Hendrikus Hubert "John" de Mol Jr. (born 24 April 1955) is a Netherlands, Dutch Mass media, media Business magnate, tycoon television producer and billionaire. De Mol is one of the men behind production companies Endemol and Talpa Network, Talpa. He is known for being the creator of several major reality television formats including ''Big Brother (franchise), Big Brother'', ''Fear Factor (franchise), Fear Factor'' and'' The Voice (franchise), The Voice''. ''Big Brother'' is the British version of the international reality television franchise '' Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol in 1997. Broadcast yearly from 2000 to 2018, and due to return in 2023, the show follows the format of other national editions, in which a group of contestants, known as "housemates", live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. They are continuously monitored by live television cameras and personal audio microphones. Throughout the competition, housemates are "evicted" from the house by public televoting. The last remaining housemate wins the competition and a cash prize. The series takes its name from the oppressive character known by that name in George Orwell's 1949 novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four''. ''Big Brother Albania'' is the Albanian version of the Dutch reality competition franchise '' Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol in 1997. It follows a number of contestants, known as housemates, who are isolated from the outside world for an extended period of time in a custom-built house. Each week, one of the housemates is evicted by a public vote, with the last housemate remaining winning a cash prize. The series started airing on 24 February 2008 on Top Channel and it has had nine seasons to date. Arbana Osmani hosted the first seven seasons and the ninth season. Ledion Liço hosted the eighth season as Osmani was pregnant and took time off to be with her family. The eviction show aired on Saturdays except for the seventh season where the eviction show was moved to Fridays.
