Bifo
Franco "Bifo" Berardi (born 2 November 1949) is an Italian Marxist philosopher, theorist and activist in the autonomist tradition, whose work mainly focuses on the role of the media and information technology within post-industrial capitalism. Berardi has written over two dozen published books, as well as a number of essays and speeches. Creative work and activism In 1962, at the age of 13, Berardi became a member of the Italian Communist Youth Federation, but was expelled due to "factionalism." He participated in the events of May '68 at the University of Bologna, where he graduated with a degree in Aesthetics. During this time he joined the extra-parliamentary Worker's Power group and met Antonio Negri. Berardi founded the magazine ''A/traverso'' in 1975 and worked with the magazine until 1981, when it reached its high point of publishing. Radio Alice
Radio Alice was an Italian free radio broadcasting from Bologna at the end of the 1970s. It started transmitting on 9 February 1976 using an ex-military transmitter on a frequency of 100.6 MHz. The station founders were associated with the Italian counter-culture movement of 1977 and drew inspiration from the Situationists and Dada. Franco "Bifo" Berardi, one of the founders, described Radio Alice as a "mix between a classical medium of militant information and a sort of art experiment in media sabotage." The station was closed by the ''carabinieri'' on 12 March 1977. Radio Alice then re-opened again for two years and became politically aligned with the autonomism movement. After closure, the frequency was then given by the state to Radio Radicale. e-flux publications includes both the ''e-flux journal'' and ''e-flux journal reader series''. The monthly art publication ''e-flux journal'' features essays and contributions by contemporary artists and thinkers. The ''e-flux journal reader series'' was initiated in 2009 as a joint imprint with Sternberg Press. History In 2009, e-flux began distributing the printed version of the journal as a PDF-to-print edition designed by Adam Florin that can be found at bookshops and art spaces around the world through a network of distributors. The first issue of ''e-flux journal'' was published in December, 2008. Shortly after ''The Building'', Berlin, presented the ''e-flux journal as exhibition'' as part of their public programming, producing issues 0, 1, 2 and 3 in the space over the course of the year. Warren Neidich
Warren Neidich ( ) is an American artist who lives in Berlin and Los Angeles. He was a professor at Kunsthochschule Weißensee School of Art, Berlin and visiting scholar at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. Neidich is founding director of the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art (SFSIA). He has collaborated with artists, curators and critics including: Barry Schwabsky (co-director of SFSIA), Armen Avanessian, Nicolas Bourriaud, Tiziana Terranova, Franco Berardi, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Isaac Julien, Hito Steyerl, Chris Kraus (American writer), and many others. Telestreet
Telestreet is an Italian movement that set up free TV stations in several metropolitan areas in Italy. The movement started in Bologna with a small transmitting station, OrfeoTv, which was founded by 'media theorist'' and activist Franco "Bifo" Berardi. Since June 2002, this micro-TV station has been broadcasting for a few hours a day within a range of 200 metres. There are now nearly one hundred mini TV stations across Italy. Their transmitting hardware contains slightly modified receiver electronics. The telestreet are usually promoted by organizations, groups or individuals who use the facility for television and social uses for group benefit, with the aim of making television a free communication tool like a newspaper or a website. Pierre-Félix Guattari ( , ; 30 April 1930 – 29 August 1992) was a French psychoanalyst, political philosopher, semiotician, social activist, and screenwriter.
