Bidya Sundar Shakya ( ne, विद्या सुन्दर शाक्य) is a Nepalese politician, who served as 14th Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Shakya previously also served as Chairman of Ward No. 21 for two terms. He is the Province Committee Member of CPN UML Bagmati Province Committee . Mayor Of Kathmandu
The mayor of Kathmandu is the head of the municipal executive of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The officeholder is elected for a five-year term and limited to serving no more than two terms. The role was first created in 1932 during the Rana regime. The current mayor is Balendra Shah, who was elected in the 2022 election and took office on 30 May 2022. The position has been held by fifteen people in a permanent capacity since its creation. Balendra Shah ( ne, :ne:बालेन शाह, बालेन्द्र शाह), popularly known as Balen Shah or simply Balen, is a Nepalese Rapping, rapper, structural engineer and politician. The Nepal Communist Party, abbreviated NCP ( ne, नेपाल कम्युनिष्ट पार्टी, ) is a defunct communist party of Nepal. It was founded on 17 May 2018, from the unification of two leftist parties, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). 2017 Kathmandu Municipal Election
Municipal election for Kathmandu, capital of Nepal was held on May 14, 2017 for the position of Mayor, a Deputy Mayor, 32 Ward Chairmen and Ward Members. All positions are for a period of 5 years. A secondary election is to be held for municipal executive which will elect 5 women from the elected ward members and 3 members who must be from the Dalit and minority community. The electorate for this election will the 159 members chosen direct election. Background Elections were last held in 2006 and since then the city has been without an elected executive. With the passing of a new constitution, a commission was formed to restructure the existing local levels into more powerful and autonomous local bodies.
