Biathlon World Championships 2011
The 44th Biathlon World Championships was held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from March 3–13, 2011. There was a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also counted for the 2010–11 Biathlon World Cup season. Championship highlights The Championships kicked off with the Mixed relay event which is seeking to make its way onto the Olympic programme for the 2014 games in Sochi. As the first event of the programme, it was finally given importance by the different teams, with all nations fielding their best teams, in difference to earlier world cup events. The Norwegians won it, overtaking Germany on the last leg. The veteran Ole Einar Bjørndalen won his fifteenth world championship gold medal in the process and his first in the mixed relay, giving him a full set of gold medals in the six events that are currently contested. Khanty-Mansiysk
Khanty-Mansiysk ( rus, Ха́нты-Манси́йск, Khánty-Mansíysk, lit. ''Khanty-Mansi Town''; Khanty language, Khanty: , ''Jomvoćś''; Mansi language, Mansi: , ''Abga'') is a types of inhabited localities in Russia, city and the administrative center of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra, Russia. Magdalena "Lena" Neuner (; since her 2014 marriage legally Magdalena Holzer; born 9 February 1987) is a retired German professional biathlete. She is the most successful woman of all time at Biathlon World Championships and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. At the age of 21, she became the youngest Overall World Cup winner in the history of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). With 34 World Cup wins, Neuner is ranked second all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour. She has won the Overall World Cup title three times, in 2007–08, in 2009–10 and her final season in 2011–12. Serhiy Oleksandrovych Semenov ( uk, Сергій Олександрович Семенов; born 28 July 1988 in Chernihiv, Ukrainian SSR) is a Ukrainian biathlete. He is first Ukrainian male biathlete to win a World Cup title in a single discipline, having become World Cup champion in the individual in the 2014–15 season. Andriy Vasylovych Deryzemlya ( uk, Андрій Васильович Дериземля; born 18 August 1977) is a former Ukrainian biathlete who competed at the top level for eleven seasons before winning his first international medal, a bronze medal at the 2007 World Championship. In 2008 together with Oksana Khvostenko he won World Team Challenge. Deryzemlya retired from the sport after the end of the 2013–14 season, starting a political career. In the 2014 parliamentary election Deryzemlya took part at the single-mandate district No. 205 in Chernihiv Oblast and failed them having finished second with 14.1% of votes. Before that he had founded the Centre for Support of Army in August 2014. Evgeny Romanovich Ustyugov (russian: Евгений Романович Устюгов; born 4 June 1985) is a Russian former biathlete. Born to cross-country skiers, Ustyugov was introduced to biathlon at the age of three. He started his career in junior tournaments in 2005, before going professional three years later in the European Championships. He is an Olympic champion in the men's 15 km mass start event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Anton Vladimirovich Shipulin (russian: Антон Владимирович Шипулин; born 21 August 1987) is a retired Russian biathlete and politician serving as the member of the State Duma since 2019. Sport career Absolute champion of European Biathlon Championship 2008 (juniors), he was the best Russian biathlon marksman in the same season (2009/2010).
