Oberhof, Germany
Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Located in the Thuringian Forest mountain range, it is a winter sports center and health resort. With 1,625 inhabitants (December 2016), it is visited by 144,000 tourists every year (2016). The town obtained its official city status in 1985. History Oberhof was first mentioned in a document in 1470. The village in the Black Forest department belonged to various Ernestine duchies, most recently to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from 1826 to 1918. In 1830, Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha had a hunting lodge built. In 1861 the first vacation guests came to the village. Egil Gjelland
Egil Gjelland (born 12 November 1973) is a former Norwegian biathlete. He is olympic champion in the biathlon relay from the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Egil Gjelland grew up in Voss, the home of many world class biathletes, and started doing biathlon at the age of 15. He first entered the national team in 1996. Gjelland's strength is in shooting. His greatest triumphs have come on Norway's relay team, where he was a regular feature for several years, thanks to his ability to keep his cool and deliver faultless shooting. In the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, he won the gold medal on the relay, together with Ole Einar Bjørndalen, Halvard Hanevold and Frode Andresen. In the Biathlon World Championship 2005 in Hochfilzen, Gjelland again helped win the relay, Norway's first relay-gold in the world championships for 38 years. Katrin Apel (born 4 May 1973 in Erfurt) is a retired German biathlete. , . Apel now resides in Gräfenroda, and is a member of the SV Eintracht Frankenhain club. Like most German winter sport athletes, Apel is a sport soldier, performing normal soldier duties but released for training and competitions. Apel began her career as a cross-country skier; between 1990 and 1994, her best results were third place in the junior World Championships 5 km classical in 1993, and second in the relay also in the Junior World Championships, in 1990. However, when Apel failed to qualify for the Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994, she made the decision, along with her friend and then training partner Steffi Kramer, to switch to biathlon. Ekaterina Vinogradova (née Ivanova) ( be, Кацярына Іванова, russian: Екатерина Геннадьевна Иванова, hy, Եկատերինա Վինոգրադովա, ''Ekaterina G. Martina Beck
Martina "Molly" Beck (born Martina Glagow; 21 September 1979 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany) is a retired German biathlete. She now lives in Mittenwald in Bavaria. She was most successful in the 2002–03 season, when she was the first German to win the women's overall Biathlon World Cup. She is also a three-times world champion and three-times Olympic silver medalist. She married the Austrian biathlete Günther Beck on 24 July 2008 and is now known as Martina Beck. Liv Grete Skjelbreid (born 7 July 1974) from Hålandsdal, Fusa, near the city of Bergen in western Norway, is a former professional biathlete. On 20 March 2006, Liv Grete announced her retirement, effective at the end of the season which ended on 26 March at the Holmenkollen. She said that she was retiring because of her young daughter, Emma, her family and because she did not have the motivation to continue. Early career As a child Skjelbreid spent a lot of her time with her older sisters, and consequently took part in the sports her sisters did. Olena Petrova (formerly Elena Petrova; born 24 September 1972 in Sharkan, Udmurtia) is a former Ukrainian biathlete. Petrova had switched to competing for Ukraine when she was unable to land a spot on the Russian team. She is a Merited Master of Sports of Ukraine and a former member of Dynamo (Ukraine). Olga Valeryevna Medvedtseva (russian: Ольга Валерьевна Медведцева), former Pyleva (russian: Пылёва), née Zamorozova (russian: Заморозова), (born 7 July 1975) is a former Russian biathlete.
