Bezau
Bezau is a town in the Bregenz Forest region, in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg. It is part of the district of Bregenz. Bezau is a popular tourist destination around the year, due to its vicinity to ski resorts and hiking trails. Its picturesque church was built in 1906 and has as its patron saint St. Jodok. Another attraction is the museum of local history (Heimatmuseum), which is housed in a traditional Bregenz Forest wooden home. Geography Bezau has a surface area of 34.42 km² and is one of the largest municipalities in the central Bregenz Forest. Population History Bezau was first documented as "Baezenowe" in 1249. After the construction of its own church in 1497, Bezau became an autonomous parish. In 1656, a Capuchin monastery was founded there. Vorarlberg
Vorarlberg ( , ; gsw, label= Vorarlbergisch, Vorarlbearg, , or ) is the westernmost state () of Austria. It has the second-smallest geographical area after Vienna and, although it also has the second-smallest population, it is the state with the second-highest population density (also after Vienna). It borders three countries: Germany (Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg via Lake Constance), Switzerland ( Grisons and St. Gallen), and Liechtenstein. The only Austrian state that shares a border with Vorarlberg is Tyrol, to the east. Bregenz Forest Railway
The Bregenz Forest Railway (german: Bregenzerwaldbahn, known colloquially as the ''Wälderbahn'' or ''Wälderbähnle''), is an Austrian narrow gauge railway with a track gauge of , the so-called Bosnian gauge. It runs through the state of Vorarlberg and from 1902 to 1983 linked Bregenz on Lake Constance with Bezau in the Bregenz Forest on a 35.33 kilometre long railway line. Today only a 5.01 kilometre long section is still worked as a heritage railway. The remaining line has been closed and largely lifted. Heritage railway In 1985 the Bregenz Forest Railway Society (''Verein Bregenzerwaldbahn-Museumsbahn'') was founded in order to at least preserve sections of the line and to operate it as a heritage railway. Bregenz Forest
The Bregenz Forest (german: Bregenzerwald, ) is one of the main regions in the state of Vorarlberg (Austria). It overlaps, but is not coterminous with, the Bregenz Forest Mountains, which belong to a range of the Northern Limestone Alps, specifically the northern flysch zone. It is the drainage basin of the Bregenzer Ach river. Geography The regional inhabitants often divide the Bregenz Forest into two main areas, the Vorderwald ('anterior forest') and Hinterwald ('hinterforest'). The Vorderwald, with its hills and low mountains, is closest to the Rhine valley. The Hinterwald has the higher mountains, with altitudes of up to 2,000 metres. Heiden, Switzerland
Heiden is a village and a municipality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in Switzerland. Its Biedermeier village around the church square is listed as a heritage site of national significance. History Heiden is first mentioned in 1461 as ''guot genant Haiden''. Heiden, Lutzenberg, and Wolfhalden originally were parts of a single municipality named the Kurzenberg. Around 1650, Heiden and Wolfhalden could not agree about control over the local church. This led to the creation of a separate church in each village in 1652, making them independent. Toni Innauer
Anton Innauer (born 1 April 1958) is an Austrian former ski jumper. Career His best-known success was at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, where he won a gold medal in the individual normal hill event. Innauer also won a silver medal in the individual large hill at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and the ski jumping event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1975. He also won the silver medal at the Ski flying World Championships in Vikersund in 1977. On 5 March 1976, he set the ski jumping world record distance at 174 metres (571 ft). And again two days later improved world record at 176 metres (577 ft), both of them set in Oberstdorf, West Germany. Innauer retired from competitions in 1980 due to an ankle injury.
