Beyond The Aquila Rift
''Beyond the Aquila Rift'' is a 2016 collection of science fiction short stories and novellas by British author Alastair Reynolds, published by Gollancz, and edited by Jonathan Strahan and William Schafer. It contains works previously published in other venues. The collection features several stories connected to Reynolds's previous stories and novels. "Great Wall of Mars", "Weather", ''Last Log of the Lachrymosa'', and ''Diamond Dogs'' take place in the Revelation Space universe, ''Thousandth Night'' takes place in the same universe as House of Suns, and "The Water Thief" takes place in the Poseidon's Children universe. Stories Adaptations On 10 March 2019 Alastair Reynolds announced that his short story "Beyond the Aquila Rift" was adapted as part of Netflix's animated anthology ''Love, Death & Robots''. Alastair Reynolds
Alastair Preston Reynolds (born 13 March 1966) is a Welsh science fiction author. He specialises in hard science fiction and space opera. He spent his early years in Cornwall, moved back to Wales before going to Newcastle University, where he studied physics and astronomy. Afterwards, he earned a PhD in astrophysics from the University of St Andrews. In 1991, he moved to Noordwijk in the Netherlands where he met his wife Josette (who is from France). There, he worked for the European Space Research and Technology Centre (part of the European Space Agency) until 2004 when he left to pursue writing full-time. He returned to Wales in 2008 and lives near Cardiff. Works Reynolds wrote his first four published science fiction short stories while still a graduate student, in 1989–1991; they appeared in 1990–1992, his first sale being to '' Interzone''. Victor Gollancz Ltd
Victor Gollancz Ltd () was a major British book publishing house of the twentieth century and continues to publish science fiction and fantasy titles as an imprint of Orion Publishing Group. Gollancz was founded in 1927 by Victor Gollancz, and specialised in the publication of high-quality literature, nonfiction, and popular fiction, including crime, detective, mystery, thriller, and science fiction. Upon Gollancz's death in 1967, ownership passed to his daughter, Livia, who in 1989 sold it to Houghton Mifflin. Three years later in October 1992, Houghton Mifflin sold Gollancz to the publishing house Cassell & Co. Cassell and its parent company Orion Publishing Group were acquired by Hachette in 1996, and in December 1998 the merged Orion/Cassell group turned Gollancz into its science fiction/fantasy imprint. Subterranean Press is a small press publisher in Burton, Michigan. Subterranean is best known for publishing genre fiction, primarily horror, suspense and dark mystery, fantasy, and science fiction. Jonathan Strahan
Jonathan Strahan (born 1964, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is an editor and publisher of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. His family moved to Perth, Western Australia in 1968, and he graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. In 1990 he co-founded ''Eidolon: The Journal of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy'', and worked on it as co-editor and co-publisher until 1999. He was also co-publisher of Eidolon Books which published Robin Pen's ''The Secret Life of Rubber-Suit Monsters'', Howard Waldrop's ''Going Home Again'', Storm Constantine's ''The Thorn Boy'', and Terry Dowling's ''Blackwater Days''. In 1997 Jonathan worked in Oakland, California for ''Locus: The Newspaper of the Science Fiction Field'' as an assistant editor and wrote a regular reviewer column for the magazine until March 1998 when he returned to Australia. Revelation Space Universe
The ''Revelation Space'' series is a book series created by Alastair Reynolds that debuted with the novel '' Revelation Space'' in 2000. The fictional universe it is set in is used as the setting for a number of his novels and stories. Its fictional history follows the human species through various conflicts from the relatively near future (roughly 2200) to approximately 40,000 AD (all the novels to date are set between 2427 and 2727, although certain stories extend beyond this period). It takes its name from '' Revelation Space'' (2000), which was the first published novel set in the universe.
