Beyond The Bend
''Beyond the Bend'' is the third studio album by the Filipino rock the Dawn, released on June 4, 1989 by OctoArts International, Inc. in the Philippines. The lead single and the first track on the album " Salamat" became their well-known hit in the Philippines. It is Atsushi Matsuura's first album with the band. Matsuura composed the song "Puno't Dulo", while Teddy Diaz composed "Hey, Isabel" and co-wrote "Salamat" with the other members (except Matsuura). The Dawn (band)
The Dawn is a Filipino rock band which first achieved commercial success during the late 1980s in the Philippines. The band broke up in 1995 with lead vocalist Jett Pangan forming another band, the Jett Pangan Group. The Dawn reunited in late 1999. The Dawn is considered the "longest-lived and most prolific rock band in the Philippines". Salamat (song)
"Salamat" ("''Thank you''") is a song released by the Filipino rock band the Dawn in 1989. It was the lead single on their third album ''Beyond the Bend''. It was written by Teddy Diaz, JB Leonor, Jett Pangan and Carlos Balcells. In its instrumental break, the guitar solo was played by Diaz. Erwin Castillo calls it "an inspired collaboration among The Dawn, our writer Bonnie Melocoton, and our producers." The song's original music video features their new Japanese guitarist Atsushi Matsuura. David Gonzales of AllMusic commented: "It starts with a mysterious-sounding chord progression played on keyboards; a fiery guitar line explodes and the song becomes a fast-paced, tuneful outing, punctuated by spirited keyboard and guitar lines. Atsushi Matsuura (musician)
is a Japanese guitarist born in Shiojiri, Nagano, Japan. He currently resides in the Philippines. Early life Matsuura attended primary school at the Manila Japanese School, an exclusive school for children of Japanese expatriates in the Philippines at that time. He went back to his home country for senior high. He transferred to the International School in Manila a year after, where he graduated in 1986. He again returned to Japan and attended Sophia University in Tokyo for college. Music came naturally to Matsuura. His grandfather played violin and his mom, Hiroko Matsuura the piano. He took piano lessons at the age of 7, attending Electone (Yamaha Electric Organ) classes until 11 years of age. Just a lesson away from course completion, he shifted his interest to guitars. Teodoro De Villa Diaz
Teodoro "Teddy" de Villa Diaz (1 April 1963 – 21 August 1988) was a Filipino musician and composer, best known as the founder and original guitarist of The Dawn. As a composer, he co-wrote the band's first single " Enveloped Ideas" and their well-known hit "''Salamat''", which was released posthumously in 1989. He played guitar on the albums '' The Dawn'' (1986) and '' I Stand With You'' (1988). Aside from being a guitarist, he played keyboards as credited on The Dawn's 1986 debut album. At the height of his career and at the peak of The Dawn's popularity in the late 1980s, he was stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend's house by two bystanders who were allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Jett Pangan (born Reginald Pangan on June 21, 1968) is a Filipino actor, singer and guitarist best known for fronting the Filipino rock bands the Dawn, and the now defunct Jett Pangan Group. He is also an actor, appearing in several theater plays, TV, and films, most notably his role in '' Tulad ng Dati'' and his lead role in the musical production of ''Sweeney Todd''.
