Bertrand Renard
Bertrand Renard (born April 28, 1955) is a French television presenter and author. He is a former contestant and the presenter of the game show ''Des chiffres et des lettres''. Early life Bertrand Renard was born in Paris. He studied classics (French / Latin / Greek) at the Sorbonne, He passed one Agrégation de Lettres Classiques but failed overall. Interested in television, he did not retake the exam. He was a good student, but acknowledged his lack of interest. He is a passionate student of history and was described as having hyperthymesia, memorizing without any effort. He stated that he was "absolutely not interested in mathematics and science". ''Des chiffres et des lettres'' (, "numbers and letters") is a French television programme. It was created by Armand Jammot and tests the numeracy skills and vocabulary of two contestants. It is one of the longest-running game shows in the world, and the inspiration for ''Countdown'' on Britain's Channel 4. The game debuted in 1965 as ''Le mot le plus long'' using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. It is currently transmitted on France 3 after 39 years first on Antenne 2 and then France 2. It has been hosted since 1992 by Laurent Romejko, Arielle Boulin-Prat, and Bertrand Renard. The former two check words proposed by the contestants and Renard provides solutions to the number problems the contestants fail to solve. Jean Teulé (26 February 1953 – 18 October 2022) was a French novelist, cartoonist and screenwriter. He was the partner of actress Miou-Miou. Teulé’s book ''Le magasin des suicides'' ('' The Suicide Shop''), published in 2007, has been turned into a film called '' The Suicide Shop''. Bernard Rapp (17 February 1945 – 17 August 2006) was a French film director and television news presenter. Rapp was born in Paris. After graduating from university, he worked as a freelance journalist. In 1976, he joined Antenne 2 (now France 2) as their international correspondent, working later as their London correspondent from 1981 to 1983. Rapp was Antenne 2's news anchor from 1983 to 1987. He created a minor stir on 18 May 1986 when he became the first French newscaster to appear on camera without a tie. Rapp was a two-time winner of the ''7 d'Or'' award (Best TV Newscaster, 1987 and Best Journalist or Reporter, 1988).
