Bertrand Bontoux
Bertrand Bontoux (born 1967) is a French operatic bass. Training and prizes After twelve years of piano studies, he turned to a singing career, first under the direction of Claude Calès at the École normale de musique de Paris, where he obtained two diplomas in opera and concert music, then at the Conservatoire de Paris, under the direction of Peter Gottlieb. In 1992, he won First Prize in the International Competition of the "Maîtres du chant français", as well as the "Darius Milhaud" prize. In 1994, he received the "Gounod" and "Duparc" prizes in the Triptych competition. Roles and premieres Bontoux made his debut at the Opéra Garnier in Rameau's '' Hippolyte et Aricie'', in which he interpreted the Third Fate, under the baton of William Christie. A bass is a type of classical male singing voice and has the lowest vocal range of all voice types. ''The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross'' (German: ) is an orchestral work by Joseph Haydn, commissioned in 1786 for the Good Friday service at Oratorio de la Santa Cueva (Holy Cave Oratory) in Cádiz, Spain. Published in 1787 and performed then in Paris, Rome, Berlin and Vienna, the composer adapted it in 1787 for string quartet, approved a version for solo piano in the same year, and finally adapted it in 1796 as an oratorio (with both solo and choral vocal forces). The seven main meditative sections are based on seven expressions attributed to Jesus during his crucifixion. The seven sections are labelled "sonatas" and are all slow. The Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne is a theater in Compiègne, France. Origins The Emperor Napoleon III decided to construct a theater in Compiègne to entertain his court in 1866. He chose the location and the architect of the building, Gabriel-Auguste Ancelet. Work began in 1867 and went well until the outbreak of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War. The Battle of Sedan ruined the Empire and eliminated the possibility of completing the building on schedule. The walls were built, but the project for decorating the theater was suspended. ''Pelléas et Mélisande'' (''Pelléas and Mélisande'') is an opera in five acts with music by Claude Debussy. The French libretto was adapted from Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play of the same name. Symphony No
A symphony is an extended musical composition in Western classical music, most often for orchestra. Although the term has had many meanings from its origins in the ancient Greek era, by the late 18th century the word had taken on the meaning common today: a work usually consisting of multiple distinct sections or movements, often four, with the first movement in sonata form. Symphonies are almost always scored for an orchestra consisting of a string section (violin, viola, cello, and double bass), brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments which altogether number about 30 to 100 musicians. The ''Fantasy'' for piano, vocal soloists, mixed chorus, and orchestra, Op. 80, usually called the ''Choral Fantasy'', was composed in 1808 by then 38-year-old Ludwig van Beethoven. Antonín Leopold Dvořák ( ; ; 8 September 1841 – 1 May 1904) was a Czechs, Czech composer. Stabat Mater (Rossini)
Stabat Mater is a work by Gioachino Rossini based on the traditional structure of the Stabat Mater sequence for chorus and soloists. It was composed late in his career after retiring from the composition of opera. He began the work in 1831 but did not complete it until 1841. Composition In 1831 Rossini was traveling in Spain in the company of his friend the Spanish banker, Alexandre Aguado, owner of Château Margaux. In the course of the trip, Fernández Varela, a state councillor, commissioned a setting of the traditional liturgical text, the Stabat Mater. Rossini managed to complete part of the setting of the sequence in 1832, but ill health made it impossible for him to complete the commission.
