Bertram Fernando
Emanuel Anthony Bertram Fernando (10 April 1921 – 15 November 1986) ( si, බර්ට්රම් ප්රනාන්දු), popularly known as Bertram Fernando, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and stage drama. Personal life Fernando was born on 10 April 1921 in Dawatagahawatte, Negombo. He was educated at Maris Stella College, Negombo. He worked as a store keeper in the marketing department after he quit cinema. He died on 15 November 1986 at the age of 65. Career He joined Minerva Drama Company in Negombo under the guidance of B. A. W. Jayamanne. He first acted in stage play ''Avataraya'' in 1940 as an 18-year-old boy. Fernando made his cinema debut in the 1947 film ''Kadawunu Poronduwa'', Sri Lanka's first film to be made in Sinhalese. He played the role "Mohommad" in that film. Sri Lankan cinema encompasses the Sri Lankan film industry. It is a fledgling industry that has struggled to find a footing since its inauguration in 1947 with '' Kadawunu Poronduwa'' produced by S. Wanniaarachchige Don David Victor Jayamanne, Order of the British Empire, MBE (15 February 1915 – 25 July 1981), popularly known as Eddie Jayamanne was a popular Sri Lankan comedian and actor of early Sri Lankan cinema. Early life He was born on 15 February 1915 in Periyamulla, Negambo to a Christian family as the youngest of the family with seven siblings. His father, W. Mohammed Gauss
Mohammed Gauss also known as Mohamed Ghouse ( Sinhala: මොහොමඩ් ගවුස්), was a Sri Lankan film music composer. His compositions for Sinhala cinema in the 1950s are credited by music critics as having been influential in developing a Sri Lankan style of film composition distinct from that of Indian films. Career He came to Sri Lanka to provide music for Nurthi dramas under the invitation of popular Sri Lankan dramatist John de Silva. Gauss Master worked for the Columbia Records Company. Although Gauss was keen to compose Sinhala songs using lyrics to Indian songs, he soon turned to composing solo songs. He did that experiment with the songs he composed for the film ''Ashokamala''. ''Kadawunu Poronduwa'' ( Sinhala: ''කඩවුනු පොරොන්දුව'', "The Broken Promise") was the first film to be made in the Sinhala language; it is generally considered to have heralded the coming of Sinhala Cinema.
