Raw Silk
Raw Silk was an American dance band, which originated in New York. History Raw Silk first signed to West End Records, which was once a popular garage label, where they recorded moderate hits. Their songs were remixed by post-disco/ R&B production duo Nick Martinelli and David Todd. Raw Silk consisted of two Crown Heights Affair members, Ron Dean Miller and Bert Reid, and three female vocalists; Jessica Cleaves, Tenita Jordan and Sybil Thomas. They are best known for their 1982 garage-boogie hit, "Do It to the Music". Their production was somewhat successful, "Do It to the Music" reached number five on the US ''Billboard'' Dance Club Songs chart, "Just in Time" (1983) peaked lower, at number 40 on the same chart. Crown Heights Affair are an American R&B / funk / disco group from Brooklyn, New York City, founded in 1967. Career Originally known as Ben Iverson and the Nue Dey Express on Britne Records, founded by then-bassist Donnie Linton, the group was renamed for a neighborhood in Brooklyn. The line-up consisted of Phillip Thomas (vocals), William Anderson (guitar/vocals), Howard Young (keyboards), Bert Reid and James "Ajax" Baynard (trumpets), Raymond Reid (trombone), Arnold 'Muki' Wilson (bass), Julius Dilligard Jr. (trombone), and Raymond Rock (drums, percussion). Under contract to RCA they recorded their self-titled first album in 1974, featuring their first single "(You Can't Bend My) Super Rod". Stanley John Reed (more commonly known as Bertie Reed; 19 January 1943 – 18 December 2006) was a South African yachtsman. He was the first South African to complete three singlehanded circumnavigations. Life Reed was born in Port Elizabeth in 1943. He joined the South African Navy The South African Navy (SA Navy) is the naval warfare branch of the South African National Defence Force. Bertram Oliver "Bert" Fraser-Reid (23 February 1934 – 25 May 2020) was a Jamaican synthetic organic chemist who has been widely recognised for his work using carbohydrates as starting materials for chiral materials and on the role of oligosaccharides in immune response. Early life Fraser-Reid was born in Coleyville, Jamaica to William, an elementary school principal, and Laura, a teacher. He had five older siblings. Laura died when Fraser-Reid was only nine months old. He attended Excelsior High School and Clarendon College before moving to Canada to earn BSc (1959) and MSc (1961) at Queen's University in Ontario He went to University of Alberta to earn a PhD in 1964 under the supervision of Raymond Lemieux.
