Bernhard Ilg
Bernhard Ilg (born in Geislingen an der Steige on February 8, 1956) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). He is Mayor ('' Oberbürgermeister'') of the Große Kreisstadt Heidenheim an der Brenz in Baden-Württemberg's region of Ostwürttemberg. He graduated in Public management (''Diplom-Verwaltungswirt'') in 1980. Thereafter he was district bailiff (''Kreisamtmann'') at the Landratsamt of Biberach where he was in charge of finance and carrying out special tasks until 1986. From 1986 to November 28, 1999, Ilg was Mayor of Salach. He is ''Oberbürgermeister'' of Heidenheim since February 1, 2000, re-elected on November 11, 2007. In 2000, he was elected with a narrow majority; however, in 2007 he received 82.27 percent of votes. Since June 13, 2004, Ilg is also a member of the Heidenheim district county council (''Kreistag''). Mayors for Peace is an international organization of cities dedicated to the promotion of peace that was established in 1982 at the initiative of then Mayor of Hiroshima Takeshi Araki, in response to the deaths of around 140,000 people due to the atomic bombing of the city on August 6, 1945. The current mayor of Hiroshima, Kazumi Matsui, is the President of the organization as of his April 2011 inauguration. Mayors for Peace was started in Japan, and since then Mayors throughout the World have signed on. Heidenheim () is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the east of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Ostalbkreis, Dillingen, Günzburg, Alb-Donau and Göppingen. History The district dates back to the ''Oberamt Heidenheim'', which was created at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1808 it was enlarged by merging with the ''Oberamt Giengen''. Salach
Salach is a municipality in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. History In 1806, Salach, previously a possession of the Lordship of Staufeneck, was mediatized to the Kingdom of Württemberg. The town was assigned to , then connected to the growing system of railways in Europe in 1847 by the Fils Valley Railway. Oberamt Göppingen was reorganized in 1938 as Landkreis Göppingen, under whose jurisdiction Salach remained.
