Bernard Eisenschitz
Bernard Eisenschitz (born 3 July 1944 in Saint-Calais, France) is a French film critic, subtitler and historian. He has also directed, produced and restored films. Achievements Eisenschitz modelled himself on the film historian Georges Sadoul, the definitive edition of whose masterwork, the ''Histoire générale du cinéma'', he edited. Eisenschitz is an internationally known expert on Fritz Lang and Nicholas Ray, as well as Chris Marker and Robert Kramer. He has worked and published on Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, Ernst Lubitsch, German cinema and the history of the Cinémathèque française, among other topics. Eisenschitz wrote for '' Cahiers du cinéma'' between about 1967 and 1972, and for '' La nouvelle critique'' from 1970 to 1977. In 2001, he founded the periodical ''Cinéma''. The Mother And The Whore
''The Mother and the Whore'' (french: La maman et la putain) is a 1973 French film directed by Jean Eustache and starring Jean-Pierre Léaud, Bernadette Lafont and Françoise Lebrun. An examination of the relationships between three characters in a love triangle, it was Eustache's first feature film and is considered his masterpiece. Eustache wrote the screenplay drawing inspiration from his own relationships, and shot the film from May to July 1972. The film screened at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. With some divided initial critical reaction, it has been championed by later critics and filmmakers. Il Cinema Ritrovato (meaning "cinema rediscovered") is a festival dedicated to the history of cinema, screening classics, retrospectives and showcasing the latest restored films from labs and archives around the world. The majority of the films shown are from early cinema to the 1960s. It is organised every summer by the Cineteca di Bologna, Italy, and is the world's major festival of film restoration. It was founded in 1986 as a three-day event but over time it became bigger, screening 500 films over nine days in 2018. Amos Gitai ( he, עמוס גיתאי; born 11 October 1950) is an Israelis, Israeli filmmaker, who was trained as an architect. Gitai's work was presented in several major retrospectives in Pompidou Center in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center in New York, and the British Film Institute in London. Ernst Wilhelm "Wim" Wenders (; born 14 August 1945) is a German filmmaker, playwright, author, and photographer. He is a major figure in New German Cinema. Otar Iosseliani ( ka, ოთარ იოსელიანი, born 2 February 1934) is a Georgian-born film director. He was born in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, where he studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire and graduated in 1952 with a diploma in composition, conducting and piano. Biography In 1953 he went to Moscow to study at the faculty of mathematics, but in two years he quit and entered the State Film Institute (VGIK) where his teachers were Alexander Dovzhenko and Mikhail Chiaureli. While still a student, he began working at the Gruziafilm studios in Tbilisi, first as an assistant director and then as an editor of documentaries. Jean Eustache
Jean Eustache (; 30 November 1938 – 5 November 1981) was a French filmmaker. During his short career, he completed numerous short films, in addition to a pair of highly regarded features, of which the first, ''The Mother and the Whore'', is considered a key work of post-Nouvelle Vague French cinema. In his obituary for Eustache, the critic Serge Daney wrote:In the thread of the desolate 70s, his films succeeded one another, always unforeseen, without a system, without a gap: film-rivers, short films, TV programs, hyperreal fiction.
