Bermuda National Rugby Union Team
The Bermuda national rugby union team represents Bermuda in the sport of rugby union. Bermuda are the current Caribbean Champions 2019 although they have thus far not played in a Rugby World Cup, but have participated in qualifying tournaments. History Bermuda first played in qualifying tournaments for a Rugby World Cup in the Americas tournaments for the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. Bermuda were eliminated from North-Round 1, losing 3 points to 60 to the United States. Bermuda attempted to qualify for the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Wales as well, participating in Group 2 of Round 1 Americas qualifying, where they finished at the top of their pool after defeating both the Bahamas and Barbados, and advancing to Round 2. They defeated Trinidad and Tobago in their first match, but then lost to Chile, and finished second, ending their qualifying run. Jamaica National Rugby Union Team
The Jamaica national rugby union team represents Jamaica in the sport of rugby union. The team has thus far not qualified for a Rugby World Cup but has participated in qualifying tournaments. The national side is ranked 67th in the world (as of 29 July 2019). History Jamaica played their first rugby international in 1960 losing 3-6 in a match with Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica competes in the Caribbean Championship, a tournament which includes Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, and Guyana. Jamaica took part in qualifying for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. They were knocked out of Round 1 (North) of the Americas tournaments by Trinidad and Tobago, losing 51 to 5. Rugby Americas North, abbreviated as RAN, is the governing body for rugby union in the North American continental region. Rugby Americas North operates under the authority of World Rugby, and is one of six regional unions represented within it. Prior to 2016, the organisation was known as NACRA – the North America Caribbean Rugby Association. The preceding body before 2010 was NAWIRA – the North America and West Indies Rugby Association. The main objective of RAN is the promotion and development of rugby in North America and the Caribbean. USA Rugby South
USA Rugby South is an organization that combines a number of unions in the south-east of the USA for competition and representative honours. Their representative team is known as the Panthers. Originally formed as Southern Eastern Rugby Union in 1976, this representative team played against the North Eastern Rugby Union between 1976 and 1982. USA Rugby South organizes inter-union competitions between champion teams from each geographical union, who go on to represent USA Rugby South at national competitions. Since 2013, the USA Rugby South Panthers have competed in the NACRA Rugby Championship and were crowned champions in their first year, beating Trinidad and Tobago in the final. The 2007 Rugby World Cup was the sixth Rugby World Cup, a quadrennial international rugby union competition inaugurated in 1987. Twenty nations competed for the Webb Ellis Cup in the tournament, which was hosted by France from 7 September to 20 October. France won the hosting rights in 2003, beating a bid from England. The competition consisted of 48 matches over 44 days; 42 matches were played in ten cities throughout France, as well as four in Cardiff, Wales, and two in Edinburgh, Scotland. The eight quarter-finalists from 2003 were granted automatic qualification, while 12 other nations gained entry through the regional qualifying competitions that began in 2004 – of them, Portugal was the only World Cup debutant. The 2003 Rugby World Cup was the fifth Rugby World Cup. Originally planned to be hosted by India, all games were shifted to Australia following a contractual dispute over ground signage rights between the Indian Rugby Union and Rugby World Cup Limited. The pre-event favourites were England, regarded by many at the time as the best team in the world. New Zealand, France, South Africa and defending champions Australia were also expected to make strong showings, with New Zealand being second favourites after victory in the southern-hemisphere Tri-Nations championship.
