Bere Point Regional Park
Bere Point is a regional park in British Columbia, Canada, located on Malcolm Island in the Queen Charlotte Strait region of the Central Coast. The park is located six kilometers North from downtown Sointula. The park hosts approximately 30 campsites and a group campsite located on the waterfront on the north shore of Malcolm Island. The campground provides access to Beautiful Bay Trail which runs 5km to Malcolm Point. There are public whale watching platforms situated along the trail to observe occasional rubbing behaviour by Orca whale The orca or killer whale (''Orcinus orca'') is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. The Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW) is a regional district in British Columbia. It takes in the lower Central Coast region centred on the Queen Charlotte Strait coast of northern Vancouver Island and the adjoining parts of mainland British Columbia. It has a total land area of 20,288.4 km² (7,833.4 sq mi) and a 2016 census population of 11,035 persons, most of which is in towns on Vancouver Island and adjoining islands. Malcolm Island is an island in the Canadian province of British Columbia, located north of Haddington Island in the Queen Charlotte Strait near Vancouver Island. It has ferry access from the Vancouver Island community of Port McNeill. The island is located within the Mount Waddington Regional District. Sointula
Sointula is an isolated village on Malcolm Island in British Columbia, Canada. Lying between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland, northeast of Port McNeill and not far from Alert Bay, the island is part of the historic and present territory of the ‘Namgis First Nation. At the 2011 census, the village had a population of 576, down 3.0% from the 2006 census. The name ''Sointula'' means "Place of Harmony" (literally 'the place of chord') in the Finnish language. A group of Finnish settlers founded the village in 1901 after rowing north from Nanaimo. They planned to set up a utopian socialist society known as the ''Kalevan Kansa'', and wrote to visionary Matti Kurikka in Finland to lead the new community.
