Berden De Vries
Berden de Vries (born 10 March 1989) is a Dutch former racing cyclist and speed skater. In 2008 he earned a bronze medal at the World Junior Speed Skating Championships at Changchun, behind fellow Dutchmen Jan Blokhuijsen and Koen Verweij. He rode at the 2013 UCI Road World Championships. Gieterveen
Gieterveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 19 km east of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1458 as "Gheter vene", and means "peat (colony) belonging to Gieten. Gieterveen developed after 1450 on a sandy ridge of the Hondsrug as a satellite of Gieten. It started as a peat excavation colony, and the rent of the houses used to be paid by peat. In 1840, it became an independent parish. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1840 and has been built in a neoclassic style. Around 1915, a consistory has been added to the back of the church. Gieterveen was home to 595 people in 1840. Olympia's Tour
The Olympia's Tour is a cycling stage race held in the Netherlands. History A.S.C. Olympia was founded in Amsterdam on 27 November 1898. It ran one-day races but wanted a race through all the Netherlands. The first Olympia's Tour was in 1909, with three stages and one rest day. The second in 1910 went to Maastricht and Groningen. It was 17 years before the third race, partly because races on public roads were forbidden in the Netherlands during the First World War. An international field with 16 Germans, the champions of Switzerland and Luxembourg and around 40 Dutch riders left the Rembrandtplein on 17 August 1927. The Dutch were mainly amateurs, the Germans sponsored riders who rode for bicycle manufacturers such as Opel and Diamant which provided material and a support team. The German Rudolf Wolke won after four stages and 800 kilometres ahead of Janus Braspennincx. It was the last race until 1955. Dwars Door Drenthe
Dwars door Drenthe ( en, Across Drenthe) was an elite men's road bicycle racing event held annually in the Drenthe, Netherlands, and sanctioned by the Royal Dutch Cycling Union. It took place between 2010 and 2015. From 2010, the men's event was UCI 1.1 rated and was part of the UCI Europe Tour. In 2011, the race was held as part of an expanded 2.1 rated Ronde van Drenthe, in which Dwars door Drenthe was held the day before the Ronde itself. The two races reverted to a stand-alone format for the 2012 edition. After the race was cancelled in 2013 due to snow, the race continued for two more years. Arnhem–Veenendaal Classic
The Arnhem–Veenendaal Classic (known as Veenendaal–Veenendaal from 1985 until 2006 and The Dutch Food Valley Classic from 2007 until 2013) is a semi classic professional road cycling race in the Netherlands starting and finishing in the town of Veenendaal. The event is part of the UCI Europe Tour calendar of events with a ranking of 1.1. Route The race has a course on winding roads through the two Veluwe national parks, Hoge Veluwe National Park and Veluwezoom National Park, and the Nederrijn river valley in the south east corner of Utrecht province over a distance of roughly 209 km, interspersed with little steep cobbled climbs, the most significant of which are the Grebbeberg and the Posbank in Rhenen, and the Emma Pyramid in Rozendaal. Team Time Trial
A team time trial (TTT) is a road bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock (see individual time trial for a more detailed description of ITT events). The winning team in a TTT is determined by the comparing the times of (usually) the fourth-finishing rider in each team (though the relevant finish position can be otherwise specified in advance by the race organisers). This means that each team will try to get their first four (at least) riders across the finish line in a tight group: it is actually a disadvantage for any rider to finish far in advance of the fourth rider, as by staying back a faster rider can help the fourth rider to get a quicker time.
