Bentley Victoria Welfare F.C. was an England, English association football, football club based in Bentley, South Yorkshire, Bentley, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. History The club, formed as Bentley Victoria, was created after the dissolution of the previous senior team in the village, Bentley Colliery F.C., Bentley Colliery. They initially competed in the Doncaster & District Senior League before moving into the Yorkshire Football League, Yorkshire League in 1973. They won promotion from Division Three in their debut campaign before changing name to Bentley Victoria Welfare. They were relegated back to Division Three in 1976 but won promotion back at the first time of asking by winning the Third Division title, and in 1978 they won their second successive promotion to reach the Yorkshire League's top flight. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. Mick Bates (English Footballer)
Mick Bates (19 September 1947 – 12 July 2021) was an English footballer who played as a midfielder in the Football League for Leeds United, Walsall, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers. He was best known for playing for Leeds during the Don Revie period. Career Bates was born in Armthorpe, Doncaster, and began his football career as an apprentice with Leeds United. Although primarily a squad player at Elland Road, not being able to break into the regular eleven due to Billy Bremner and Johnny Giles not releasing their places in the sides, Bates was still an excellent part of Don Revie's Leeds squad of the 1960s and early 1970s. Signing professional forms in 1964, Bates made 187 appearances for Leeds scoring nine goals, including one against Juventus in the 2–2 first leg of the Fairs Cup Final of 1971 away in Turin. Rod Belfitt
Roderick Michael Belfitt (born 30 October 1945) is a former professional footballer who played for a number of English football teams. His family lived in South Africa and India before settling in Doncaster, where he later played football for amateur side Doncaster United. After a short period at Arsenal he returned to Doncaster United. Later, after signing for another amateur team Retford Town, Belfitt turned professional in July 1963 and signeď for Leeds United. Leeds United Belfitt made his first team debut at Huddersfield on 23 September 1964 scoring the winning goal. With several Leeds forwards injured Belfitt was given a six-game run in the first team where he scored three times before being dropped by Don Revie. James Arthur Mann (born 15 December 1952, Goole, Yorkshire) is an English retired footballer who made over 230 appearances in the Football League as a midfielder predominantly for Bristol City. Career Jimmy Mann began his career at Leeds United. He joined Bristol City in 1974 and gained renown as a skillful attacking midfielder who played a role in the Robins' promotion to the First Division under Alan Dicks in 1976. Paul Edmunds (footballer)
Paul Edmunds (born 2 December 1957) is an English former professional footballer and manager. Playing career A pacy winger, Edmunds trained as a teacher in Sunderland and was called into Great Britain's 1979 World Student Games squad. From here he was spotted by Leicester City and signed as a professional. Edmunds made his debut against Sunderland at Roker Park, then scored in his first home game against Shrewsbury Town. While playing for Leicester Edmunds broke his wrist in a challenge from Joey Jones and was released in 1981 after suffering further injuries. He was signed by AFC Bournemouth but released again after a single season. Paul Showler (born 10 October 1966) is an English retired footballer. He began as a trainee at Sheffield Wednesday but after failing to get a professional contract he juggled a job as a police officer with non-league football. He returned to league football with Barnet, where he became a firm favourite down the left wing, becoming known for his goalscoring corner kicks. He later moved to Bradford City and Luton Town, before retiring in 1999. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The Northern Counties East Football League is a semi-professional English football league. It has two divisions – Premier Division and Division One – which stand at the ninth and tenth levels of the football pyramid respectively.
