Bent Sørensen (composer)
Bent Sørensen (born 18 July 1958) is a Danish composer. He won the prestigious Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition in 2018 for ''L'isola della Città'' (2016). He studied composition with Ib Nørholm at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and with Per Nørgård at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. Sørensen treats major/minor tonalities with microtonal inflections and blurs the harmonies with glissandi. Examples of this technique can be found in his trombone concerto "Birds and Bells", a work for orchestra and choir "Echoing Garden", and his violin concerto "Sterbende Gärten", which took the prestigious Nordic Council Music Prize in 1996. His early works deal with folksong in prosaic way. Sørensen has composed in a variety of mediums, including opera (his "Under the Sky" was premiered in 2004 at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen), orchestra, choir, chamber ensemble and solo instruments, but notably he has not composed any electroacoustic music. Evening Land (composition)
''Evening Land'' is an orchestral composition by the Danish composer Bent Sørensen. The work was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Alan Gilbert. It was premiered by the New York Philharmonic under the conductor Edo de Waart on November 30, 2017, at David Geffen Hall, New York City. Composition Background ''Evening Land'' has a duration of roughly 13 minutes and is cast in a single movement. The work's commission was originally intended for Per Nørgård, a fellow Danish composer and Sørensen's former teacher, who had been awarded the 2014 Marie-Josée Kravis Prize for New Music by the New York Philharmonic. Nørgård was unable to complete the commission due to scheduling conflicts, however, and he instead recommended Sørensen for the job. The piece was inspired by an image Sørensen recalled from his childhood on the island of Zealand in Denmark. Christian Lindberg
Christian Lindberg (born 15 February 1958) is a Swedish trombonist, conductor and composer, Biography Early life and career Lindberg was born in Danderyd. As a youth, he learned to play the trumpet, and subsequently began to learn the trombone at age 16. He originally borrowed a trombone to join his friends' Dixieland jazz group, inspired by records of Jack Teagarden. He attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, where his teachers included Sven-Erik Eriksson. By age 18, he had obtained a professional position in the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra. At age 20, he left his orchestral career behind to study to become a full-time soloist. He studied with John Iveson at the Royal College of Music (1979–1980) and with Ralph Sauer and Roger Bobo in Los Angeles (1983).
