Bensenville
Bensenville is a village located near O'Hare International Airport in DuPage County, Illinois, with a portion of the town in Cook County. As of the 2020 census, the village population was 18,813. First known as Tioga, it was formally established as Bensenville in 1873 along the Milwaukee Road (now Canadian Pacific) right-of-way. The community is named after Bensen, Germany, a village in the municipality of Sudwalde. A post office was established in 1873, but because there was an existing "Benson", the suffix "ville" was added. The Edge Ice Arena is located in Bensenville, former home of the Chicago Steel junior ice hockey team. The Churchville School in Bensenville is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Fenton High School (Illinois)
Fenton High School, or FHS, is a public four-year high school located in Bensenville, Illinois, located on the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is the only school in Community High School District 100. History High school education started in Bensenville as a two-year, then three-year high school serving the Bensenville area from 1917-1924 as part of Bensenville Elementary School District 2. In 1925 Community High School District 100 was founded with a four-year program serving both Bensenville and Wood Dale. 1927 Bensenville Community High School was built. By 1951, the enrollment grew far beyond the building's capacity and a referendum was passed allowing the board to build a new building. Opened in September 1955, the school was named Fenton Community High School after Frederick C. Fenton, the district's first superintendent. Edge Ice Arena
The Edge Ice Arena includes ''The Edge on John Street'', ''The Water's Edge Aquatic Center'', and The ''Edge II Ice Arena'' a 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena located in Bensenville, Illinois. It had been used as the official training facility and practice arena for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League before the team built a new downtown Chicago training facility. The arena also had been used by Chicago Steel (USHL) from 2000 to 2015. The ice arena is also the home to the Roosevelt Lakers men's and women's college ice hockey teams competing at the ACHA Division I level. Until Roosevelt's merger with Robert Morris University Illinois in 2020, it was the home of Robert Morris Eagles ice hockey. Churchville School
Churchville School, also known as Fischer School, is a former school building located in unincorporated Bensenville, Illinois. History Originally part of a schoolhouse for the original settlers of Addison Township, the first known date of use was 1846. Designated into Illinois School District #3, the land that the school was built on was donated by August Fisher. Classes were routinely held in the building until 1931. An Evangelical Lutheran church and a school for German-speaking children were also built on the grounds, but both were destroyed in a 1924 fire. The building continued to see usage as a meeting place for organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, and served as a polling station. In order to continue to qualify as a member of District #3, classes were held once annually until 1950, when the ownership of the school reverted to the Fisher family. The Chicago Steel are members of the United States Hockey League, joining the league in 2000. The Steel have played their home games at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois, since 2015; previously, the team played at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois, from 2000 to 2015. The kidnapping of Edward Bremer was the last major criminal enterprise of the Barker-Karpis gang. Though successful in netting the gang a large ransom, it brought down the full force of the FBI on the gang, resulting in the death or capture of its main members in the months afterwards. The kidnapping was ordered by St. Paul Jewish-American organized crime boss Harry Sawyer, and carried out by Fred Barker, Alvin Karpis, Arthur Barker, Volney Davis and Chicago Outfit mobster George Ziegler. The successful capture and prosecution of the kidnappers greatly enhanced the reputation of the FBI. The strong evidence that the city's police were working with the criminals helped fuel campaigns against police corruption.
