Benjamin M. Wilcox
Benjamin Martin Wilcox (June 21, 1854 in Fleming, New York, Fleming, Cayuga County, New York – August 1912) was an American manufacturer and politician from New York (state), New York. Life He was the son of Joseph Wilcox and Lydia (Martin) Wilcox. He attended the public schools in Auburn, New York, Auburn. In 1870, he became a messenger, and later a clerk in the County Clerk's office. He was Deputy County Clerk from 1877 to 1882; and Clerk of Cayuga County from 1883 to 1891. Afterwards he engaged in the manufacture of ladies' shoes. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Cayuga Co.) in 117th New York State Legislature, 1894 and 118th New York State Legislature, 1895. The 128th New York State Legislature, consisting of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, met from January 4 to July 20, 1905, during the first year of Frank W. Higgins's governorship, in Albany. Background Under the provisions of the New York Constitution of 1894, 50 Senators and 150 assemblymen were elected in single-seat districts; senators for a two-year term, assemblymen for a one-year term. The senatorial districts were made up of entire counties, except New York County (twelve districts), Kings County (seven districts), Erie County (three districts) and Monroe County (two districts). Benn Conger (October 29, 1856 – February 28, 1922) was an American businessman, banker and politician from New York. Life He was born on October 29, 1856, in Groton, Tompkins County, New York. He was President of the Standard Typewriter Company which was renamed Corona Typewriter Company in 1914, and merged after his death to form Smith Corona.
