Beni Special Gubernatorial Election, 2013
The 2013 Beni special gubernatorial election was held on 20 January 2013. The elections were held to replace the interim governor of Beni Department with an elected executive who will serve until 2015. Numerous observers described the election as an important test of political strength in eastern Bolivia: a MAS victory would signal the retreat of the ''Media Luna'' right-wing alliance to Santa Cruz department alone; while a Beni First victory would dash MAS' political ambitions in the department. Prior to the election, Beni had an interim governor, Haysen Ribera Leigue, who was selected by the Departmental Legislative Assembly on 16 December 2011. Plurinational Legislative Assembly
The Plurinational Legislative Assembly ( es, Asamblea Legislativa Plurinacional) is the national legislature of Bolivia, placed in La Paz, the country's seat of government. The assembly is bicameral, consisting of a lower house (the Chamber of Deputies or ''Cámara de Diputados)'' and an upper house (the Chamber of Senators, or ''Cámara de Senadores)''. The Vice President of Bolivia also serves as the ''ex officio'' President of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. Beni First ( es, Primero el Beni) is a regional, right-leaning political party in Beni Department. The party won the 4 April 2010 regional election, the only one it has ever contested, electing both Ernesto Suárez Sattori as governor and a plurality of 11 members of the Departmental Legislative Assembly, in which it became the largest single party. It holds the mayor's office in eight municipalities. Plurinational Electoral Organ
The Plurinational Electoral Organ ( es, Órgano Electoral Plurinacional) is the independent electoral branch of the government of Bolivia. It replaced the National Electoral Court in 2010. Jessica Anne Jordan Burton (born 6 May 1984) is a Bolivian-British politician, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Bolivia 2007 and represented Bolivia at Miss Universe 2007 pageant in Mexico City. Jessica is the only child of an English father and Bolivian mother, Aida Burton. Her father, Andrew Keith Jordan is a petroleum engineer. San Borja (Beni)
Location San Borja is the seat of the San Borja Municipality, the second municipal section of the José Ballivián Province. The city is located at an elevation of 197 m on the left bank of ''Río Maniqui'', a tributary of Río Rapulo which flows into Río Mamoré. Geography San Borja sits on the far southwestern edge of the Llanos de Moxos. Media Luna
The Media Luna () or Media Luna Ampliada () refers to a group of four departments – Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando, and Tarija – in Bolivia which are home to a greater proportion of opponents to the national government led by Evo Morales and the Movement for Socialism (MAS) than the rest of the country. Pando has seen increasing support for MAS since 2009, while Tarija was initially supportive but has opposed MAS in every election after 2014. In contrast to the predominantly Indigenous Andean (Quechua and Aymara) populations of the Andean region such as La Paz and Cochabamba, the departments in the Media Luna are majority mestizo, as well as being made up of the remaining 26 groups of lowland indigenes with white minorities, specifically in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
