Benjamin Thompson
Sir Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, FRS (german: Reichsgraf von Rumford; March 26, 1753August 21, 1814) was an American-born British physicist and inventor whose challenges to established physical theory were part of the 19th-century revolution in thermodynamics. He served as lieutenant-colonel of the King's American Dragoons, part of the British Loyalist forces, during the American Revolutionary War. After the end of the war he moved to London, where his administrative talents were recognized when he was appointed a full colonel, and in 1784 he received a knighthood from King George III. A prolific designer, Thompson also drew designs for warships. He later moved to Bavaria and entered government service there, being appointed Bavarian Army Minister and re-organizing the army, and, in 1792, was made a Count of the Holy Roman Empire. Ben Thompson is an American business, technology, and media analyst, who is based in Taiwan. He is the author of ''Stratechery'', a subscription-based newsletter/podcast featuring commentary on tech and media news. He is also the co-host of ''Exponent'' with James Allworth and ''Dithering'' with John Gruber, all podcasts focused on the same themes. Thompson's career includes stints at Apple, where he interned at Apple University; Microsoft, where he worked on its Windows Apps team; and at WordPress developer Automattic as a growth engineer. Thompson launched Stratechery as a blog while still a Microsoft employee, and in April 2014 devoted himself to the site full-time, operating on a " freemium" subscription model. Benjamin C. Thompson (July 3, 1918 – August 17, 2002) was an American architect. He was one of eight architects who founded The Architects' Collaborative (TAC) in 1945 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, one of the most notable firms in post-war modernism, and then started his own firm, Benjamin Thompson and Associates (BTA), in 1967. Early life and education Thompson was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, spent early years on his family's farm, and received his early education at St. Paul Academy and at Avon Old Farms School, a progressive school founded by architect Theodate Pope Riddle in Avon, Connecticut. His interest in architecture was nurtured by travels in Europe with his mother, an artist and art collector. Ben Thompson (lawman)
Ben Thompson (November 2, 1843 – March 11, 1884) was a gunman, gambler, and sometimes lawman of the Old West. He was a contemporary of "Buffalo" Bill Cody, Bat Masterson, John Wesley Hardin, and "Wild Bill" Hickok, some of whom considered him a friend, others an enemy. Thompson fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, and later for Emperor Maximilian in Mexico. When hired in 1881 as marshal in Austin, Texas, the crime rate reportedly dropped sharply. Thompson was murdered at the age of 40 in San Antonio, Texas, in the " Vaudeville Theater Ambush." Benjamin Thompson (April 22, 1806 – January 31, 1890) of Durham, New Hampshire, Benjamin was a farmer and businessman, and the main benefactor (law), benefactor of the University of New Hampshire. Benjamin left the New Hampshire, State of New Hampshire his farm and other properties. He also left "Warner Farm" which was originally part of the Valentine Hill grant at Oyster River in Durham. His total assets gifted totaled over $400,000 (Approximately $11.7 million in 2021 dollars) for the creation of an agricultural college on his property. Thompson specified that the money and properties were to be used to establish an agricultural college. The New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, Which was already established in Hanover, New Hampshire was moved to Thompson's property in Durham in 1893. Thompson made his debut for Oxfordshire in the 1998 MCCA Knockout Trophy against Huntingdonshire. Thompson played Minor counties cricket for Oxfordshire from 1998 to 2004, which included 23 Minor Counties Championship matches and 15 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. Ben Owen Thomoson (born 2002 in Wrexham, is a Welsh professional footballer who plays for club Fleetwood Town, as a midfielder. Career Thompson started his career in the Academy at Connah's Quay Nomads at the age of ten and progressed through age groups up to under-14 level, where he was an ever-present in the side. In February 2017, he was invited for a six-week trial at EFL League One club Bury. Just two weeks into the trial he was offered a two-year contract with their Academy. He spent two years in the Academy at Bury, but was forced to leave the club in August 2019 when the first team were expelled from the English Football League and the Academy was disbanded. Samuel Benjamin Thompson
Samuel Benjamin Thompson (October 11, 1837 - August 1909) was a lawyer, judicial official, and Reconstruction Era politician in South Carolina. He was a delegate to the 1865 South Carolina Constitutional Constitutional Convention. He was also an elected member of the 48th general assembly from 1868 to 1870, one of the four representatives for Richland County. He served as a state legislator for six years as well as a justice of the peace for eight years. He was the uncle of Charleston doctor Alonzo Clifton McClennan. He married Eliza Henrietta Montgomery and had nine children. Their eldest child, Clarissa Minnie Thompson Allen, became an educator and author.
