Belmont, Ayr
Belmont is an area within the south of the town of Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK. It was developed for local authority housing before the outbreak of World War Two in 1939, around Belmont Avenue, Chalmers Avenue and Morton Road. In the late 1950s, work commenced on a much larger council housing development at South Belmont, in an area enclosed by Peggieshill Road, Fenwickland Avenue, Burnbank Road and Dalmellington Road. The main services within the Belmont area are Belmont Academy, which was originally built in 1960 on the site of the former Belmont House which was the home of the Mathie-Morton family, Yeomanry House on Chalmers Road, St Paul's R.C. Ayr (; sco, Ayr; gd, Inbhir Àir, "Mouth of the River Ayr") is a town situated on the southwest coast of Scotland. Belmont Academy
Belmont Academy ( gd, Àrd-sgoil Bhelmont) is the largest secondary school in Ayr. The Academy is non-denominational and state-run by South Ayrshire Council. In 2008 the school transferred from the 48-year-old campus into a new building, which was opened to pupils in August 2008. History The original Belmont Academy was built in 1960. When the school leaving age rose to 15, Ayr Academy no longer had the capacity for all the secondary school children in Ayr and so Belmont was built. Construction of the current campus started on 10 January 2007 and the new building was opened to pupils in August 2008. Mainholm Academy decant In mid-2006, Mainholm Academy was closed for repairs and all of the school's pupils were decanted into neighbouring schools – namely the Belmont, Ayr and Kyle Academies. Ayrshire (Earl Of Carrick's Own) Yeomanry
The Ayrshire (Earl of Carrick's Own) Yeomanry was a Regiment of the British Yeomanry and is now an armoured Squadron of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry (SNIY), part of the British Army Reserve. It is the Lowlands of Scotland's only Royal Armoured Corps Unit and has an unbroken history stretching back to the 1790s. The squadron is part of 51st (Scottish) Brigade within the Army's Support Command. The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry is the only yeomanry regiment that serves in the reconnaissance role, equipped with the Wolf Land Rover with Weapons Mount Installation Kit (WMIK) and with HMG (heavy machine gun 12.7mm L1A1) and GMPG (General purpose machine gun 7.62mm L7A2). Kincaidston is a housing scheme in the town of Ayr in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The estate borders Belmont to the north, Alloway to the west and the A77 to the south and east. History The estate was built in the 1970s. It was built by Kyle and Carrick District Council and Digital Equipment Corporation to house workers for a nearby factory development. The estate remains partly in council hands (now South Ayrshire Council) although many of the houses are now privately owned. Most of the streets are named after flowers (for example, Celandine Bank, Honeysuckle Park and Speedwell Square) apart from Kincaidston Drive, the estate's main road. Prior to development, Kincaidston was a farm on the outskirts of Ayr.
