Bellevue Community School District
The Bellevue Community School District (also known as ''Bellevue Community Schools'', or ''BCSD'') is a rural public school district and serves the city and surrounding area of Bellevue, Iowa. It is second largest public school district in Jackson County, Iowa. It operates two buildings serving grades PK-12 and 3-4 year old preschool. Bellevue High School holds both the junior high and high school as well as an athletics complex on its campus, while Bellevue Elementary School is located downtown within the pre-Civil War Jackson County Courthouse building. The district is overseen by the Iowa Department of Education. Area The district currently serves the city of Bellevue and most of rural northeastern Jackson County. The district also serves the cities of La Motte and Springbrook. Bellevue ( ) is a city in eastern Jackson County, Iowa, United States. The city lies along the Mississippi River (at Lock and Dam No. 12) and next to Bellevue State Park. In 2020 its population was 2,363; up from a count of 2,191 at the 2010 Census, making it the second-largest and only growing city in Jackson County. The city lies in a valley created by two large bluffs (known as North and South Bluffs respectively), with the Mississippi River serving as the city's eastern border (the Illinois state border), and with the Mill Creek valley extending to the west. Geographically, it is part of the southernmost region of the Driftless Area, a portion of North America that escaped all three phases of the Wisconsinian Glaciation. It is one of the few cities in Iowa to be built near large hills and bluffs, which account for much of the city's economic stimulation as a tourist town. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling.
