Belgium In The Eurovision Song Contest 2008
Belgium participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "O Julissi" written by Michel Vangheluwe. The song was performed by the band Ishtar. The Belgian entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia was selected through the national final ''Eurosong '08'', organised by the Flemish broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). The competition featured twenty competing entries and consisted of seven shows. In the final on 9 March 2008, "O Julissi Na Jalini" performed by Ishtar was selected as the winner via a public televote. The song was later retitled as "O Julissi". Belgium was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 20 May 2008. Performing during the show in position 6, "O Julissi" was not announced among the 10 qualifying entries of the first semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Ishtar (Belgian Band)
Ishtar is a Belgian (Flanders, Flemish) folk music, folk band who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, 2008 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "O Julissi", sung in an Constructed language, imaginary language. They competed in the first semi-final on 20 May 2008. O Julissi "O Julissi" is a song by Ishtar. The band's sitclaims that the song is in an imaginary language. There is, however, a certain similarity to Ukrainian language, Ukrainian; in particular, the first line is fully understandable (Ukrainian "Ой у лісі на ялині", meaning "Oh, in the forest on a spruce"). Eén
Eén (stylized as één; en, "one") is a public Dutch-language TV station in Belgium, owned by the VRT, which also owns Ketnet, Canvas and several radio stations. Although the channel is commercial-free, short sponsorship messages are broadcast in between some programmes. Peter-John Vettese
Peter-John Vettese (born 15 August 1956 in Scotland), also known as Peter Vettese, is a Scottish keyboardist, songwriter, arranger and record producer. Vettese is perhaps best known for being the keyboardist for progressive rock band Jethro Tull for most of the 1980s. Early life Peter Vettese grew up in a musical family in Brechin, Angus, Scotland. He began his music studies with piano lessons at the age of 4. At 9, he began playing in public with his father's band. He left home at 17 to join one of the UK's biggest dance hall Big Bands, but was fired for rehearsing in company time with his own group. He then formed the jazz fusion group Solaris with guitarist Jim Condie, and toured Scotland and the US. Gerard James Borg
Gerard James Borg is a Maltese songwriter, author, and concept creator. He is well known for writing multiple songs that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Borg has written six of the Maltese entries for the annual Eurovision Song Contest with composer Philip Vella. Their song "7th Wonder" sung by Ira Losco gave Malta 2nd place in the contest. This was the first time Malta reached 2nd place and it is the country's best result in the contest so far, alongside the 2nd place earned by Chiara with the song "Angel" in 2005. Borg and Vella also penned the song "Reaching Higher" as the official theme for the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Malta that year. Regi Penxten (born Reginald Paul Stefan Penxten on 4 March 1976) is a Belgian DJ and record producer, of many eurodance and trance projects in Belgium, including Milk Inc. and Sylver. Better known by his mononym Regi, he has released three solo albums, which all reached the top ten of the Belgian album charts: ''Best Of'' (2005), ''Registrated'' (2007) and ''Registrated 2'' (2010). Regi also had a number of charting singles in the Belgian Ultratop charts and two charting in the Netherlands. Brahim Attaeb better known by his stage name and mononym Brahim (born in Torhout, Belgium on 24 February 1984), is a Belgian R&B singer and presenter of Moroccan descent. Music career Brahim became famous when he participated in Belgian first inaugural season of the '' Idool'' series, the Belgian Flanders version of the Idol series. He finished fourth overall. Clouseau is a Belgian pop music, pop group, having success in Belgium and the Netherlands since being established in the late 1980s. Apart from a brush with English material in the early 1990s they perform in Dutch language, Dutch. Their biggest hits are "Daar gaat ze" ("There she goes", a #1 hit in the Netherlands in 1990, and rerecorded in English as "Close Encounters") and "Passie" ("Passion", a #1 hit in the Netherlands in 1995). Belgium In The Eurovision Song Contest 1991
Belgium was represented by the band Clouseau, with the song "Geef het op", at the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Rome on 4 May. Before Eurovision National final Clouseau were chosen internally by broadcaster BRTN to be that year's Belgian representatives. On 9 March 1991, during a live broadcast called ''Euro-Clouseau'' hosted by Jessica de Caluwe from the Casino Cursaal in Ostend, Clouseau performed a number of songs, three of which ("Geef het op", "Hilda" and "Ik kan zonder jou") were new. The band made their own choice from the three songs and announced "Geef het op" as the song they would perform in Rome. At Eurovision On the night of the final Clouseau performed 18th in the running order, following Germany and preceding Spain.
