The Belgian Elite League is the top flight men's competition for rugby union in Belgium. In 2018 RFC Liégeois was relegated having finished bottom of the Elite League and RC Frameries were promoted from the 2nd Division. Rugby Union
Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. Belgian Rugby Federation
The Belgian Rugby Federation (FBRB – ''Fédération Belge de Rugby'' in French and ''Belgische Rugby Bond'' in Dutch) is the governing body for rugby union in Belgium. It was founded in 1931 and became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1988. The Belgian Federation of Rugby (FBRB) is responsible for organizing and developing rugby union in Belgium. It includes the provincial districts, clubs, managers, players, coaches, educators and officials, to contribute to the practice and development of rugby in all communities in Belgium. It is an organization that brings together the LBFR (Ligue Belge Francophone de Rugby) and VRB (Vlaamse Rugby Bond). Dendermondse Rugby Club
Dendermonde RC is a Belgium, Belgian rugby union club currently competing in Belgian Elite League. The club is based in Dendermonde in the Flemish Province of East Flanders. They are currently the only team from Flanders in the top flight. The official colours of the club are green and yellow. History The club was founded in 1962 under the name of SOS Rugby Sint-Gillis. The club's first game was against ASUB Waterloo, ASUB, resulting in a 13-20 loss. Developing a strong youth following, the turn of the 1990s saw the club push on with the construction of its own complex in the Van Langenhovestraat region. and won its first Belgian League Title in 2012 having previously won the 2nd Division title twice in 1970 and 2010. Dendermonde won the Belgian double in 2011/12 breaking the domination of the Wallonia, Walloon and Brussels based teams. The 2011–12 Belgian Elite League is a competition between eight Belgian rugby teams. It started on 17 September 2011 and ended with a final game on 12 May 2012 at the King Baudouin Stadium. The competition was won by Rugby Ottignies Club who beat the Royal Kituro Rugby Club The Royal Kituro Avia Schaerbeek Rugby Club, often shortened Kituro RC, is a Belgian rugby union club currently competing in the Belgian Elite League.
