Beldon Katleman
Beldon Katleman (July 14, 1914 – September 28, 1988) was an American businessman. Katleman inherited partnership in El Rancho Vegas, a hotel casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, from his uncle Jake Katleman who died in 1950, and served as president of the hotel. Katleman was an investor in two other Las Vegas casinos, the Frontier Hotel and the Silver Slipper. Early life Beldon Katleman was born to an affluent Jewish family on July 14, 1914, in Iowa. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. His parents owned the Circle K national chain of parking lots and owned real estate in Los Angeles. During World War II, Katleman served as a lieutenant in the motion picture division of the Signal Corps in the U.S. Army. Career From the early 1950s until it was destroyed by a fire in 1960, he was stockholder and president of El Rancho Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hillcrest Country Club is a historically Jewish country club located on the west side of Los Angeles, California. The club Located in Los Angeles's Cheviot Hills neighborhood, Hillcrest opened in 1920 as the first country club for the city's Jewish community. In 1972, the ''Los Angeles Times'' referred to Hillcrest as "the leading Jewish country club in Southern California." The property includes tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and an 18-hole golf course, as well as a clubhouse with dining and meeting facilities for its members and their guests. Culver City, California
Culver City is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,779. Founded in 1917 as a "whites only" sundown town, it is now an ethnically diverse city with what was called the "third-most diverse school district in California" in 2020. In the 1920s, the city became a center for film and later television production, best known as the home of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. Lewis Rosenstiel
Lewis Solon Rosenstiel (July 21, 1891 – January 21, 1976) was the founder of Schenley Industries, an American liquor company, and a philanthropist. The Lewis S. Rosenstiel Award is named after him and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami is named after him and his wife. Early life and career Rosenstiel was born to a Jewish family in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Elizabeth (née Johnson) and Solon Rosenstiel. He attended University School and Franklin Prep. He then went to work at his uncle's business, Susquemac Distilling Company in Milton, Kentucky. Rosenstiel organized Schenley Products Company in the 1920s. The company bought numerous distillers, including one in Schenley, Pennsylvania, that had licenses to produce medicinal whisky.
