Belconnen Magpies Football Club
The Belconnen Magpies Football Club is an Australian rules football club which competes in the AFL Canberra. They previously played in the now defunct North East Australian Football League competition. History Originally known as the Turner Football Club, the club became known as Belconnen in 1970 and was admitted to the Canberra Australian National Football League in 1971. Wearing a navy blue guernsey with a white monogram, the club was known as the "Bees" from 1971 until 1979, then as the "Blues" following the ANU Blues' withdrawal from the league during 1979. Before the 1986 season, the Belconnen club merged with the West Canberra Football Club to become the "Belconnen Magpies". The team began to wear the traditional magpie black and white stripes and in 1991 the club moved its headquarters to Kippax. In 1998 the colour teal was added to the existing black and white jumper. AFL Canberra is the name of the local governing body for and premier competition of Australian rules football in the Australian Capital Territory (and the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales). It acts as an umbrella to several competitions beneath it. These competitions are Seniors First Grade, Seniors Second Grade, Thirds, Fourths and a Rising Stars League. North East Australian Football League
The North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) was an Australian rules football league in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. The league was formed in November 2010, and its inaugural competition was in 2011. It was a second division league, sitting below the national Australian Football League (AFL) and featured the reserves teams of the region's four AFL clubs playing alongside six non-AFL affiliated NEAFL senior teams. West Canberra Football Club is a former Australian Rules Football club based in the Australian Capital Territory that played in the ACT AFL from 1974 – 1987. West Canberra's guernsey was black and white (similar to Collingwood), and the team was nicknamed the Magpies. Ainslie Football Club
Ainslie Football Club is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory. The club formed in 1927 and won its first premiership in 1929. Ex- St Kilda star Kevin Neale was captain-coach for six seasons (1978–1983), during which time Ainslie won four premierships: 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983. In 1984 Ex-Collingwood and Richmond player Rod Oborne captain-coached the club, winning the 1984 premiership. The club was also coached by former VFL/AFL great David Cloke. Chris Rourke coached Ainslie for 14 years from 2007-2020 taking the club to six premierships during that period. Brett Allison
Brett Allison (born 26 May 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club and the Sydney Swans in the VFL/AFL. He served as the head of development at the Melbourne Football Club from 2013 to 2016. Allison played as a crumbing forward pocket or half-forward flanker and is perhaps best remembered for his Mark of the Year in 1991, as well as being a premiership player in 1996 and 1999. He was known for his ''front and square'' ability to get the ball and sharp shooting around goals. At the end of 1997 Allison was involved in talks that could have had him moving back to Sydney, however this deal fell through and he played his 200th for North in 1998. Logan Austin (born 8 July 1995) is a former professional Australian rules footballer with the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Port Adelaide Football Club from 2015 to 2017. Matthew Lokan
Matthew Lokan (born 20 November 1982) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), as well as the Port Adelaide Magpies in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Lokan played in the forward pocket for the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL and was drafted by Collingwood at the age of 20 in the 2002 AFL Draft with pick 70. Collingwood moved Lokan to a half-back flank and he made his senior AFL debut in round 1, 2003, playing all matches that season, including the Grand Final against Brisbane. Don Pyke
Donald Lachlan Pyke (born 5 December 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who is an assistant coach at the Sydney Swans. He was formerly the senior coach of the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He played for the West Coast Eagles from 1989 to 1996. Pyke was the first United States born player in the Australian Football League and played more games and kicked more goals than any other American born player in the history of the league with 132 games and 97 goals. Pyke was recruited by the Claremont Football Club for the 1987 WAFL season, playing in a premiership in his first season and winning the club's best and fairest award in his second season. Jack Steele (born 13 December 1995) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants from 2015 to 2016. Steele has won two Trevor Barker Awards and is a dual All-Australian.
