Belawadi Mallamma
Belawadi Mallamma (ಬೆಳವಡಿ ಮಲ್ಲಮ್ಮ) was a queen of Belawadi kingdom (''samshtana''). She is also credited with being the first queen in history who built and trained a women's army in the 17th century. She fought war against Shivaji defending her kingdom. Biography She was the daughter of Sodhe King Madhulinga Nayaka and later became wife of Belawadi King Ishaprabhu. Conflict with Shivaji As mentioned in The book ''Turukari panchamara itihasa'' written by ''Shiva basava shastri'' of Brahanmatha (heritage site of Belavadi Sansthana). History of Belawadi Sansthana starts from 1511 with king ''Chandrashekhara raja'' and it mentions about war between Shivaji and Mallamma. Sodhe
Sode is a village near Sirsi in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka in India. Location Sodhe is a village in the Malenadu region, surrounded by thick forests. It is 22 km from Sirsi and 13 km from Hulekal. Prehistoric rock art Prehistoric Rock art has been found near Sodhe. It comprises engravings and drawings dated to c. the first millennium BCE. In them, double sided squares with intersecting loops are engraved/ drawn. Such drawings have also been found at Hire Benakal, Gavali, Karnataka. They have some resemblance to present day rangoli/ rangavalli. History Sodhe or Sonda has a long, recorded history.
