Belarusian Railway BCG-1
The Belarusian Railways BCG-1, originally Belarusian Railways BKG-1 (БКГ : ''Белорусско-Китайский Грузовой''), is a type of twin-unit, eight axle, (Bo'Bo')-(Bo'Bo'), high power mainline electric freight locomotive manufactured by CNR Datong Electric Locomotive for the Belarusian Railway. The locomotives are derived from the China Railways HXD2 locomotive type developed from the Alstom Prima locomotive platform. History and design In April 2010 CNR Datong Electric Locomotive, CNR Datong announced that it had obtained a 700million Yuan contract to supply 12 twin unit, twin section electric locomotives to Belarus; the locomotives were to be used to increase haulage capacity from the 4700t to 5500t capacity of the 6.52MW VL80S locomotives to 7500t or better, and would be rated at 9.6MW. CRRC Datong Co. Ltd. () is a Chinese railway locomotive manufacturing plant based in Datong, Shanxi, China, founded 1953. The factory was a major producer of steam locomotives for the Chinese market up to 1988 when production switched to diesel powered locomotives. By the 1990s electric locomotives had begun to be produced, and became the major product of the works. In 2003 the factory became CNR Datong Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd. China Railways HXD2
The HXD2 locomotives are a series of related locomotive classes built by CNR Datong Electric Locomotive and Alstom. The locomotives designs are based on the Alstom Prima electric locomotives, and are a product of a cooperation agreement signed between the two companies in 2004. All locomotives are intended for heavy freight work, including coal trains on the Datong Qinhuangdao line (Daqin Railway). The original HXD2 locomotives are twin unit Bo′Bo′+Bo′Bo′ vehicles whereas the HXD2B and HXD2C versions are single unit Co′Co′ machines. At the time of their construction the HXD2 and HXD2B locomotives were amongst the most powerful locomotives in the world. Prima is a family of railway diesel and electric locomotives built by Alstom. During the late 1990s, manufacture of the type had commenced; by 2008, Alstom had reportedly sold 1,750 Prima locomotives. In 2009, the second generation Prima II was launched. A twinset of cars or coaches can also be called a twin car. In US passenger railroad parlance, twin units are also known as married pairs. On passenger railroads, light rail, and monorail services, married pairs may have machinery necessary for full operation of the cars split between them.
