Bekir Küçükay
Bekir Küçükay is a Turkish classical guitarist. He is one of the foremost guitarists in Turkey today. Life Küçükay was born in 1958 in Ankara. He started his musical life at age 9 on the mandolin. It was not until the age of 16, however, that he made his decision to devote his life to the guitar. Küçükay met Özer Ünal (a celebrated tenor sax player) in 1976 who was also at a turning point in his life and music. Under the influence of Ünal, Küçükay became interested in jazz and devoted himself to classical guitar. He graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Music in 1979. After this he completed a Masters Programme at İstanbul State Conservatory and then went on to do a Doctorate at Gazi University. In 1983 he was awarded a prize at the National Competition for Guitar Composition for his work "Monologue". Gazi University
Gazi University ( tr, Gazi Üniversitesi) is a public university primarily located in Ankara, Turkey. It was established in 1926 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as Gazi Teacher Training Institute. In 1982, it was reorganized by merging with the Bolu Academy of Engineering and Architecture, Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences, the Ankara College of Technical Careers, the Ankara Girls' College of Technical Careers, and the Ankara State Academy of Engineering and Architecture to become a large metropolitan university as part of the act which created the Board of Higher Education. Heitor Villa-Lobos
Heitor Villa-Lobos (March 5, 1887November 17, 1959) was a Brazilian composer, conductor, cellist, and classical guitarist described as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music". Villa-Lobos has become the best-known South American composer of all time. A prolific composer, he wrote numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal works, totaling over 2000 works by his death in 1959. His music was influenced by both Brazilian folk music and stylistic elements from the European classical tradition, as exemplified by his ''Bachianas Brasileiras'' (Brazilian Bachian-pieces) and his Chôros. His Etudes for classical guitar (1929) were dedicated to Andrés Segovia, while his ''5 Preludes'' (1940) were dedicated to his spouse Arminda Neves d'Almeida, a.k.a. "Mindinha".
